About this deal

Also stated on the Season card is an effect that comes into play for this first season alone. It could be something such as gaining extra resources in particular circumstances. Or, some Park cards could come with token discounts if claimed this Season. But more about that later! Relight My Fire; That Park Card Is My Only Desire In Tenpenny Parks players are competing to build the best amusement park that gives thrills, creates awe, and sparks joy. This is accomplished through the mechanisms of worker placement and tile placement. At the beginning of the game each player gets a player board, three workers, seven money, and three goal cards. Players will keep two of these goal cards which will score three points each at the end of the game. The game is played over five rounds. Look I like Theme Parks. I've played loads of Rollercoaster Tycoon and I really like Unfair, another Theme Park themed boardgame. So whenever a new game is announced with this theme it always piques my interest. Has Tenpenny Parks hit all the marks? Lets find out. Your goal? Build the best theme park. A heavier design might turn Tenpenny Parks into a simulation with lots more nuts and bolts around staffing, or ride maintenance, or events that might change the rules of a particular round. The trail gets longer with each passing season. With the start of a new season, the trail tiles get shuffled and re-laid out, along with an extra tile. No two hikers can share the same spot, so it’s first-come, first-served. Unless, that is, you want to use your Campfire token. But you only get one of these per season, so light it with care! Also, if you can fill a Canteen with a water token you get access to harder-to-come-by memories. Other Gear cards offer further engine building options. How will you trek through the PARKS?

Players can then choose to pay money to advertise their attractions. Each attraction has a different advertising cost and each attraction can only be advertised once per round. Advertising attractions will generate points. After the fifth round, players total up their VPs, including bonuses for end-game goals and secret objective cards. Most points wins. Rides will need to be carefully placed around trees and not touching other rides. Game Experience: The artwork, design and theme of a game can play a massive part in its success. Yes, there are those classics that perhaps could have done more with those three things however now, more than ever; we have new releases that are pure works of art. PARKS is one such example. A labour of love Tenpenny Parks is a super tight board game. Lots of options that are limited by other player’s choices and the relatively constrictive gameplay. There are so many things you would like to do, but so few workers to do them with. Some may find this restrictive gameplay too much, especially at three or four players.A gripe I have with the game is replay-ability. There is not much variability in set-up (besides the personal goals) and you use almost all attractions cards in higher player count games. Extension boards are also all very similar I feel they definitely could have done something there. After 5 plays the games are already starting to feel a bit the same. Construct rides through the stone age, the American old west, the age of fantasy, the cosmos of space, and the depths of the sea! A Feast for Odin is a classic. A Feast for Odin is ranked as the #22 game all-time on BGG; it might be the best game of its type ever made. While a slight disparity is to be expected, there seemed to be a massive difference between our success and I felt the randomness removes a sense of enjoyment from the game, so much so that players may switch off, especially as the direction they are given simply cannot be achieved. PARKS, by Keymaster Games, is a beautiful, relaxing board game experience. In it you control two hikers, trekking across the National Parks of the US. What ‘memories’ will you make along the way? What photos will you snap?

Why do you want these tokens? Remember, you want to buy Park cards. Each of the three Park cards that you dealt during set-up states the number of tokens required to Visit it. They’re worth varying victory points. The more points they are worth, the tougher token requirements, or quantity. I’ll explain how you claim these cards later. But first… Let me take a selfie! Swig Your Water And Take Memories With You My Comments: I think the theme is delightful. The rides are imaginative with neat card art. The colorful art also helps deliver the theme. Each month, players take turns placing workers on the game board to take actions like removing trees, building concessions and attractions, and buying more property to make their growing theme parks as attractive to Visiting People (VP tokens) as possible.Filling parks with attractions is perhaps the heartiest puzzle in Tenpenny Parks, but takes only one or two tries to solve. Players, myself included, usually fall for the trap of using concessions to grab early placement bonuses, before realizing there’s no longer any room for attractions. Once you’ve learned from that mistake and familiarize yourself with the placement rules, you’ve mastered Tenpenny Parks. Her Comments: Mechanically this game does not break a lot of new ground. It feels familiar, but it does all work together. My Comments: A lot of the variables change from game to game so that the puzzle the game offers will always be different.
