About this deal

I have to say, I was expecting a cookbook filled with fantastic Italian food, given that Tucci is Italian (at least, I think he is). What this cookbook is, however, is a book of Tucci's family recipes... stuff they eat for breakfast, their favorite hors d'oeuvres, etc., and also the recipes of some of his celebrity friends. The series concludes in Sicily, where he finds Michelin-starred chef Tony Lo Coco, winemaker Ariana Occhipinti, and Princess Stefania di Raffadali in Palermo. He then travels hundreds of miles to the island of Lampedusa for sardines before arriving near the base of Mount Etna for a few more meals. Food can bind and govern a family and no one knows this more than Hollywood actor and respected foodie, Stanley Tucci. Throughout his childhood, family and food were inseparable and cooking was always a familial venture evoking a wealth of memories and traditions. Featuring family-friendly dishes and stunning photography THE TUCCI TABLE will captivate food lovers' imaginations with recipes from Stanley's traditional Italian roots as well as those of his British wife, Felicity Blunt. Each dish is introduced by Stanley and he offers an insight into why each recipe is so special to his family. Recipes include Pasta Al Forno, Roasted Sea bass, Pan Seared Venison and even British classics such as Shepherd's Pie and Sausage Rolls, there is something to please everyone and bring the whole family together. THE TUCCI TABLE captures the true joys of family cooking.

Received this book today for a Mother’s Day present and I’m excited to dive in and try some of the recipes, having already dabbled in some Tucci recipes after reading his memoir. Featuring family-friendly recipes and stunning photography, an all-new cookbook from New York Times bestselling author, beloved actor, and respected foodie Stanley Tucci.

Few actors can look so at ease or so convincingly distraught in restaurants, dining rooms, and bars on screen. His real-life obsession with cooking comes out in the “foodie” movies for which he is best known, like Big Night (1996), starring Isabella Rossellini and Tony Shalhoub, and Julie & Julia (2009) with Meryl Streep. Stanley Tucci is an accomplished actor, he is also an accomplished chef; so the writing of a cook book is not so far out of the realm of what should be expected. Ingredients: celery; carrots; onions; pancetta; ground beef; red wine; thyme; canned tomatoes; milk; long pasta of your choice; Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

A beautifully produced collection of wholesome and hearty Italian recipes that will bring the whole family together. One of the things that’s fascinating about Italy is where it’s situated geographically, he says. “If you think about that alone— the influences over millennia, the topography, and the climate, how diverse it is from Lampedusa to the Alps — it’s just staggering. There aren’t many countries that have that kind of diversity.” I like the actor, Stanley Tucci, and now I like the chef too! These recipes are the flavors I am used to, and are not overly complicated. In fact, I made two recipes from the book and enjoyed them both. Decades later, Tucci is still no stranger to professional kitchens. Dropping in on chefs in Italy, like Tony Lo Coco (I Pupi, Sicily), Sarah Cicolini (Santo Palato, Rome), and Fabio Picchi (Cibrèo, Florence), was one of the joys of making the series. “You have to know how to stay out of the way,” he says with a reverence that recognizes the demanding nature of restaurant work. “That’s what is really important. And be deferential and know what they’re doing. It’s almost like you’re walking on stage while a play is going on.” Tucci was comfortable filming in Italian restaurants. However, he admits, “It doesn’t matter if the chef cooked it 40,000 times... You’re supposed to turn it out perfectly every time, no matter what the circumstances are. And those circumstances change at any given night and at any given moment. And that is the most terrifying and exciting thing about being in a kitchen and being a chef.”

The Tucci Table is not a book of fashionable recipes but a collection of dishes to cook for family and friends - a love letter to his Italian culinary heritage, his wife's classic English cooking, and all the people who matter most in their lives. -- Shane Watson * The Times *
