Das Bühnenbild der Aufführung in Melbourne ist, ganz Andrew-Lloyd-Webber-typisch opulent, passt sich der doch recht ins mystisch-grotesk gehenden Stimmung des Phantoms und des Schauplatzes "Coney Island" sehr gut an und weiß zu überraschen. Surprisingly, I would've liked to have seen more of each couple just to get to know them all more so the respective endings had a little more meaning. The most heartwarming story is the father/son relationship of Daniel (Liam Neeson) and Sam (Thomas Sangster), who at first try to cope with the death of the boy's mother but who then find a bond in discussing Sam's crush on a girl at his school. It's a feel good movie that takes a while to gather steam, but the film's pay off is well worth the trouble of getting to know all of the characters. If you're interested in a romantic comedy that's slightly different than the normal Hollywood fare, this one's for you, especially since the DVD features some pretty nice special items and nice audio/video quality. All star cast including Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson and Alan Rickman. With Curtis' comedic credentials and the star wattage of pros like Grant, Neeson and Thompson, Love Actually is a laugh-packed affair, with more than a few tears to be shed along the way, and a startling amount of bawdy raunchiness.

I've seen a lot of the classic and modern Christmas films and there aren't many which measure up to the quality of Love Actually. I never really bought Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister, but his unlikely and funny relationship with Natalie (Martine McCutcheon) added a spark to the film.

Luckily, the opening scenes for each story are short but slowly become a bit longer and more involved, so by the middle of the film I found myself caught up in the lives unfolding on screen.This is not a film student's commentary, even though Curtis supplies several behind-the-scenes tidbits along the way. From a comfortably married woman (Emma Thompson) suspecting that her husband (Alan Rickman) is slipping away. Thus, while the setting remains underground football violence, Love switches the attention to a different character, the youngster breaking into the crowd. With its fantastic all-star cast, and an outstanding soundtrack, it really is the Ultimate Romantic Comedy to enjoy again and again. As the years have gone by some of the scenes in the film have stayed with me and have become more and more powerful.
