About this deal

Discover what we've been doing with #CapeTownMagNew over the years: find hundreds of exciting new restaurants and experiences. If you are traveling outside the country, do a little research on tipping customs before you go. Tips are expected in Canada, for example, but not in Japan. And always tip in cash and in the currency of the country you are visiting. Service

Tipping is generally not expected in the UAE but at high-end restaurants and bars in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, you may find that a service charge in the region of ten per cent is automatically applied. You don’t always need to tip taxi drivers although it’s polite to round up to the nearest whole number.

When taking a taxi in Spain, it is not customary to give a tip. However, if you have a lot of luggage that the cab driver has stowed well in the car, you can very well tip a small amount at the end. Especially with so-called “Free Walking Tours” (free city tours), you should leave an appropriate tip. Because these city guides live off the visitors’ tips, they show the city to. (And let’s face it, if you get a free city tour, there are definitely a few euros in it, right). Here, depending on the length of the tour, you can gladly give € 5-15 per person.

Tipping is pretty common in the UK, but there isn’t a huge tipping culture like you’ll find in many countries. Though tipping is normal in the UK, it’s not necessarily expected. Now that we’ve already looked at where tipping is appropriate let’s take a look at a few of the different regions of Spain and compare tipping habits. Tipping on the Balearic Islands I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to every business and individual who has been in touch to share their support for my Bill.If you’ve been given a particularly good tour guide or private driver in the South Pacific Islands, showing your appreciation with a tip is acceptable, if not expected. The amount is up to you, but always tip in local currency, as US dollars are hard to trade. If you head to the central region of the country where there are many small villages, a tip in a cafe or restaurant is close to unheard of. So, when you’re looking for that perfect wedding updo, or to embody your favourite celebrity’s hairstyle and your hairdresser delivers exactly what you ask for, consider tipping them well for a job well done after your treatment and for any additional services like food, beverages, or maybe even in-salon entertainment. Note that if your service was particularly bad, you don’t need to leave a tip. However, service is different from that in other countries, such as the U.S., in that people aren’t as upbeat or attentive to customers. Service also tends to be slow. If breakfast or other meals are included in the hotel, the waiters and staff in the catering area are also happy to receive a small tip, which can be divided between the employees. Depending on the service and length of stay, tipping around €5 at the end of the stay is reasonable.
