About this deal

One of the Ei168 radio bases flashes amber light every 10 seconds. All other bases in the group are fine. Solution

Eliminates the need for any cabling between the Ei428 and the smoke, heat and CO alarms used in the system. For most Ei Electronics mains powered alarms a replacement kit is available - this contains an original Ei replacement alarm which is compatible with the old system and contains instructions on how to install. The 160e Series and Multi-Sensor Fire Alarm use a RadioLINK Module,Ei100MRF,directly into the head of the alarm to gain RadioLINK+ capabilities instead of a base. For most Ei Electronics mains powered smoke alarms, a replacement kit is available containing a compatible smoke alarm, and in the case of Ei140 and Ei160 alarms, the new head just slides onto the existing base without the need for an electrician.

The radio interlinked smoke alarms of the Ei140 series alarms, while having been fitted by an electrician, are not interconnecting. Solution

The Ei168RC is a short range device using a transceiver to transmit, receive and repeat the RadioLINK RF protocol. This ensures a robust “mesh” of RF signals and reliable paths of communication. Ei Electronics and Aico products have usually a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty during which they will be repaired or replaced free of charge if suffering from faults or defects caused by manufacturing issues. Aico’s telephone number is 01691 664100. They deal with warranty cases for the mains powered ranges. Smoke alarm starts to beep in the middle of the night The Ei168RC is an Easi-fit mounting plate with built-in RadioLINK circuit compatible with the Ei140RC serie. It enables the Alarms to communicate wirelessly with other Ei Electronics RF devices, i.e. when one Alarm is triggered, all Alarms in the RF system sound.

A new Ei161 alarm has been installed but is randomly emitting short (1-2 seconds) alarm beeping sounds. Solution

It provides wireless interconnect between alarms, i.e. when one alarm is triggered, all alarms in the system sound. Features built-in tamper proof Rechargeable Vanadium Pentoxide lithium standby cells, capable of lasting at least 10 years and powering the module initially for at least 2 months in the event of mains power failure. The cell manufacturer endorses a minimum 10-year life expectation for the rechargeable cells, which are activated by operating the battery switch inside the module. You may find this range of videos, showing how to change batteries and detector heads, useful. We also offer replacement smoke detector heads so that you can change your alarm without the need to call in an electrician. General smoke alarm problems

Once all the alarms have been installed the RadioLINK system is secured by a special House Coding function to safeguard the system from interference from other RF systems. The Ei168RC allows for easy expansion of an existing hard-wired interconnected system. Range: The type of building will be the major limiting factor e.g. the number and type of walls/ceilings that the radio signal has to pass through. As a guide, 30m should be the maximum distance between any of the RadioLINK units in the system. A mixed wired and wireless system is often referred to as a hybrid system. To set a hybrid system up. Simply fit one Ei168RC base to an alarm in the existing alarms and any new alarms with Ei168RC bases. Units are in ‘Factory Code’ mode when received (they will all communicate with each other). They must be ‘House Coded’ to eliminate the risk of adjacent properties communicating with each other. After ‘House Coding’ they will only communicate with other RadioLINK units coded at the same time. Here are some common questions we have been asked by our customers about Ei Electronics and Aico (Ei’s UK operation) mains powered smoke alarms and heat alarms through our fire safety forum.

Interruptions of the mains power can be due to several reasons, including incorrect wiring (e.g. if the power supply comes from the lighting system and the alarm is incorrectly wired to the switched part of the circuit or when neutral/earth wiring are reversed), tripped fuses/circuit breakers, loose wires and general power failure. Electrical spikes can also cause false alarms or damage the smoke alarms. Smoke detector is off the ceiling and the battery has been removed but the beeping continues Please let us know should you like to discuss anything and we’ll get you in touch with an electrician who can provide a professional advice!
