About this deal

We used our foolproof easy pancake recipe to test the pans, plus our fluffy American pancake recipe. The pan, which can be used on all hob types, was slower than average to heat up and it needs a bit of practice to get right. If you just want to use it to make crêpes and pancakes, you can go for a smaller size (around the 24cm mark).

For piping intricate lacy pancakes or carefully adding toppings and fillings, loading up squeezy bottles with ingredients and batters will make you feel straight out of a professional kitchen. TIP: For more festive occasions, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzled with caramel sauce. If you didn't do this, then the melted butter would not mix well with it but would curdle into fine lumps. Swap your old tough lemon squeezer for his two-in-one juicer that has a lid for small citrus fruits – great for serving traditional lemon juice with your pancakes – but also a large juicer for making orange juice.A good non-stick pan is an absolute essential, but true pancake aficionados may wish to go one better and invest in a specialist pancake pan. While this ‘natural’ finish has its benefits in some ways, it’s a no-no when it comes to pancake making – we found ours just stuck to the bottom and had to be scraped off. Not a must have for every home, but if you're getting technical and want a large, lacy-thin crepe, a crêpe spreader is a fun addition to your pancake repertoire. We’ve picked our top tools for Pancake Day (and beyond), including the best pancake pan, hand whisk, lemon juicer and spatula, to ensure your Shrove Tuesday is flippin’ fantastic.

STEP 1: Prepare the pancake batter first, as it will need to rest for a while before you start dipping the apple rings into it. Brush with a little butter and olive oil and, using kitchen paper, blot off any excess fat from the pan. For the American style, the pan is roomy enough to cook four at a time while still easy to turn over. If there’s one attribute important in a pancake pan, it's the ability to flip that pancake up in the air effortlessly with just enough oomph to launch it and turn it over and for this, the Judge crêpe pan is the one.Away from Pancake Day, they're also great for filling up with olive oil for easily adding when cooking. It will make you feel like you're running your own street food stall as you smooth batter around a pan (best for large pans with low edges), and is also handy for evenly spreading jam or chocolate spread as they melt. Prepare the pancake batter in a bowl, then dip the apple rings in it and fry them on both sides in a skillet with a higher layer of oil. Place a core cutter on top of the blossom end and press down to cut out the apple core and form a nice apple circle. We needed to cook several pancakes to get the amount of batter right – a good tablespoon; we finally settled at medium for the cooking heat as any hotter the little faces burned.
