About this deal

When the Disney Channel contracted the UK ITV broadcaster HTV Wales to bring to the screen this major drama series, it realised a legacy left by Robert Louis Stevenson when he wrote his classic thriller more than a hundred years ago. Their journey was not meant to be a speculative one, as the father, former naval lieutenant Jason Firbeck (James Condon), set out to claim land bequeathed to them by an old friend. Jason Firbeck, a retired naval lieutenant recently widowed, takes sons Samuel and Luke and daughter Jassy to New South Wales to claim land bequeathed to them by a wealthy friend. Set in Australia in 1829, follow the tale of a family led by a retired naval lieutenant recently widowed who take his two sons Samuel and Luke and his daughter Jassy to New South Wales. Women are used as a barometer for the brutal toughness of the task, with many reduced to whoring or the equivalent as the mistresses of much older men.

Nostalgia Central covers the period 1950 to 1999 and contains some words and references which reflect the attitudes of those times and which may be considered culturally sensitive, offensive or inappropriate today. The way the natives are treated almost seems to be an over zealous approach to a normal stereotypical one of either ignoring them of making them out to be the baddies, but although it shows some ill-treatment and injustice, they appear to sit in groups waiting for white man to bring grog or work until they fight or are attacked.

Tobias, with his rugged good looks was already on his way to making a career of period-piece dramas having previously starred in Arthur of the Britons, he would follow this series with a guest appearance in Dick Turpin and a starring role in Smuggler. It's all tightly directed, including some episodes directed by none other than Peter Weir (Picnic at Hanging Rock) and fan favourite Peter Hammond (The Avengers).

Starring Oliver Tobias and produced by Tony Essex, the series is an epic adventure series set in Australia as it is being colonised. Maybe this is the only print available and the market for such a series so marginal that any investment in cleaning it up would never be recouped. He also has to contend with rustlers, travelling con men, escaped prisoners, aboriginal raids and cut-throat gangs.Though this may have more in common with 'Rawhide' than 'Pride and Prejudice', the show is clearly historical drama nonetheless, and there is much to be learned about the early colonisation of Oz. The series starred Oliver Tobias as an Englishman who, in 1829, emigrates to Australia with his father and siblings to settle on a land grant in New South Wales. In 1829, following the tragic death of his wife, retired naval officer Jason Firbeck (James Condon) takes his three adult children – two sons and a daughter – from their home in Yorkshire and heads for the new land of Australia, determined to build a new life for themselves in New South Wales – which at the time was also still a penal colony. A strange world greets the Yorkshire family, one of Red-coats, convicts and a peasantry governed by a wealthy elite.

His father and brother appear totally spineless, although the line adopted for the series is that they are fish out of water and good Christians. The diary dates go from Oct 14, 1829 to Dec 2, 1834 so I guess another series was intended as the opening of each episode states 'A settlers diary 1829-1836'. The series shows the struggle for survival in the early days of Australia in all it's brutal, corrupt, lawless and miserable glory,no punches are pulled, and it makes the wild west look like Trumpton! This co-production between Yorkshire Television and the Nine Network (Australia) was based on the novel Pages From a Squatter’s Diary by E.We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Executive producer and former BBC documentary man Tony Essex died 10 days after the series was finished. pages; Novelisation of the scripts from the Yorkshire TV series charting the lives of a group of early free settlers in Australia. V. Timms, a dramatic exploration of early Australian settlement and the tremendous hardships that helped to shape the nation.
