The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley | Waterstones

Charlie is exposed as an arrogant bully and those around him had both motive and opportunity to switch the drugs he took daily to control his epilepsy. The Love Letter is a thrilling novel full of secrets, lies and unforgettable twists. from the internationally bestselling author, Lucinda Riley. THE AUTHOR: Lucinda Riley is an Irish author of popular historical fiction and a former actress. She spent the first few years of her life in the village of Drumbeg near Belfast before moving to England. At age 14 she moved to London to a specialist drama and ballet school. She wrote her first book aged twenty four. Lucinda died in June 2021. Yet it took me agessss to finish. I have no idea why , it just felt that this was a bit slower than the authors other novels. But while taking a stroll through the landscape one wintry day, Greta comes across a grave with writings that trigger her eagerness to rediscover her lost memories. It is hard to say too much about this book without giving the plot away, so I’m going to keep to short and sweet. This is a fairly slow burner where we are drip fed pieces of information so that you have to wait until the very end of the book to find out the full story about the letter, the secret it contains and its effect on the characters involved. There is plenty of action and edge of the seat moments that intensify the tension and suspense of this book. Romance, family secrets and drama make this a multi layered read to keep your interest through out he book. In collaboration with her son Harry Whittaker, she also devised and wrote a series of books for children called The Guardian Angels.

Riley has composed a great character set. Joanna was a standout. Riley does an excellent job of outlining Joanna’s journey, which covers her career, friendships, love life and her key involvement in exposing the truth behind the love letter. Joanna is joined by a set cast of well defined individuals, from Zoe, to Simon and Marcus. There is not much I can fault by way of characterisation. Riley also manages to balance good and bad figures throughout the proceedings of her novel. Lucinda Kate Riley ( née Edmonds; 16 February 1965 – 11 June 2021) [1] [2] was a Northern Irish author of popular historical fiction, formerly an actress and ballet dancer. The story line, in my opinion, was faultless. It had so many twists and turns and around the half way mark it becomes a very fast-paced read! There was (LOTS!!) danger and mystery but also a lot of love in many forms. It was the perfect balance and such a unique story, as all of Riley’s books are! At the time that Rosanna Menici, a young and naïve girl, met Roberto Rossini, she had no idea that the man will forever change her life.Lucinda and her family divided their time between the U.K. and a farmhouse in West Cork, Ireland, where she wrote her books. It was interesting to see Lucinda Riley take on quite a different format with The Love Letter. There is much more of an emphasis on action, thrills, adventure, espionage and deceit. It marks a different direction for Lucinda Riley and I enjoyed it very much. Who would have thought that the contents of a letter written seventy years ago would be so explosive! Lucinda Riley lets us know. And the ending? Well, it was tied up neatly, but for me it was just a touch too unbelievable !

In this suspenseful and heart-pounding novel from New York Times bestselling author Lucinda Riley, an ambitious young journalist unravels a dangerous mystery that threatens to devastate the British monarchy. This was the first standalone novel I’ve read by this author. Although it was not enjoyable, I plan on reading some of her other books because I’ve heard they are very good. Her desire to learn of her true origin however leads her to England where she comes to learn of a woman pioneer who lived in Australia more than a hundred years ago. Tiggy D’Aplièse instinctively moved to the remote highlands of Scotland after the death of Pa Salt—her elusive adoptive billionaire father who fostered six daughters from all four corners of the world. Even before I got to the first chapter of The Love Letter, Lucinda Riley’s Author’s Note piqued my interest in this book. Originally this book was written in the late 1990’s but was pulled from publication as it was seen to have an inappropriate plot line for that time. This plot line concerned a fictional Royal Family and we all know that the Royals went through a bad time in the late 1990’s. This is Lucida Riley’s first thriller, and set around a letter that contains information that could damage the English Establishment, and contains information that people are prepared to kill for. The is not a particularly fast paced but it has all the ingredients of a brilliant thriller; suspense, twists and turns, tension, murder and conspiracy. But Joanna stumbles on something dark beneath the glamour: the mention of a letter James Harrison has left behind, the contents of which others have been desperate to conceal for over 70 years.
