The other problem for me is that Akira is so immature and devoid of any impulse toward self-examination that there is no character progression - just a passive 2D character that things happen to. This should have been a special episode only… Let’s be real, they could have just put the last arc in a special episode and it would work way better. Most of the episodes were nonsensical and Minato was just frustrating on a whole next level. Why did he feel even more shy and teen panic after they got together than in season 1? a b Pineda, Rafael Antonio (April 23, 2023). "Minato's Laundromat Boys-Love Manga Gets 2nd Live-Action Season". While Minato's letter is very corny, I like that he reaffirms his love. He gives a long list of compliments, even lengthier than what Shin said in Episode 5. Although Shin fell in love first, Minato fell even harder. He just needed some time and motivation to express his feelings openly. Aww, the matching bracelets are sweet. My favourite moment comes after Minato gives away the birthday present. Shin is too busy admiring his new gift, which annoys his boyfriend. He gets petulant and demands a hug. It's a cute reaction from him, hehe. Minato overcomes his hang-ups about physical affection as the couple shares a kiss. Minato also allows Shin to move in with him, indicating he wants emotional intimacy. Minato has made the biggest breakthrough in this episode, shattering the last of his barriers! In his inner thoughts, Minato says he shouldn't get involved with a high school student. Yet, his actions speak otherwise. You're alone in your bedroom with this seventeen-year-old kid. You sit beside him in bed, compliment his handsome looks, and start talking about "needs". Do you think that's the right place and time to discuss this topic? Uncle Minato, you're crossing into dangerous territory. Stay away from the forbidden fruit! On the flip side, I also can relate to Minato’s position. He is physically and emotionally attracted to this young man, but knows it’s not right to give in to the pursuit. He tries his best to be firm with his words and believes he is making it clear that they can’t be anything more than friends, even if his actions don’t always translate that way. But I think another reason he isn’t too harsh with Shin is his own memory of his feelings for his teacher at Shin’s age and the anguish he felt when he realized his feelings wouldn’t be reciprocated at that time. I wish he could have had a heart-to-heart talk with Shin early on just stating in no way whatsoever can we be in a relationship at this time, but let's see what happens down the road when you are older and out of HS.I adoreSakuma! What a precious human being. 😙 Even though his character may act ditzy and clumsy, Sakuma is compassionate and emotionally intelligent. He handles his conversation with Minato responsibly, showing poise and composure. Sakuma reaffirms teacher-student boundaries, implying there's no chance of a romance in the past or the present. Yet, he lets down Minato gently and handles a delicate conversation with so much warmth. Not Shin getting a permission slip from his momto live with Minato! Does Shin think he's going on a middle school field trip? On the one hand, Shin works a part-time job and studies medicine. All signs indicate he's an intelligent young man capable of thinking responsibly. On the other side, there's another side of Shin that feels childish. He pouts, can't control his impulses, and throws tantrums like a kid. Shin flips between these two personas based on his mood at the time. I like that Shin can immediately whip up ten compliments for his boyfriendon the fly. He understands his partner well and keeps a mental record of his favourite qualities. Meanwhile, Minato struggles to think of anything to say besides physical attractiveness. As long as you're a hottie, that's enough for me~ a b "ドラマ「みなと商事コインランドリー」EDは帰りの会、井上小百合が湊の元カノ役で出演"[TV drama Minato's Laundromat's ending theme to be performed by Kaeri no Kai, Sayuri Inoue cast as Akira's ex-girlfriend]. The thing is, it's not zero-sum. Being with someone you love is energizing and their support can help you get through difficulty, so it just feels like the story is just forcing the characters into a holding pattern until Shin is 18 and graduated. Minato Akira, a middle aged man struggling with the daily grind of his mundane corporate life, finds himself at a crossroad when he is suddenly asked to return to his hometown to take over his grandad’s much-loved laundromat. In the course of operating the laundromat, Akira suddenly stumbles upon a high school student by the name of Katsuki Shintaro whose cute and charming appearance catches Akira’s attention. The two, then, find the time to exchange a friendly conversation whereby Akira accidentally reveals his orientation to Shintaro. Minato's Laundromat to receive a drama adaptation! A "light-hearted romance BL" featuring a manager around his 30s and a high school student]. Natalie (in Japanese). March 21, 2022 . Retrieved May 7, 2023. If you like cute and fluffy, you may enjoy this. I don't mind recommending it - but you may want to give in to the urge to fast-forward though tiresome parts - you won't miss anything and it may make the show more enjoyable for you. The series really has nothing to say and follows a fairly conventional course, which is a shame given it's "forbidden relationship" elements. It's a fluff piece, with a lot of cute moments, but by the end the characters have been running in circles so long that I stopped caring what happened to them.

One day, a high school student named Shin visits the laundromat. Minato immediately notices the teenager's physical attractiveness, matching his perfect type. However, Minato is aware of Shin's youth. This seventeen-year-old boy is too young for him, an adult man almost in his thirties. Minato reminds himself not to cross any boundaries. As Minato and Shin introduce themselves, they share pleasant yet platonic interactions. Minato gives Shin a bottle of water to alleviate the summer heat. Later that evening, Shin brings some sweets to the laundromat to return the favour. They chat casually and grow more familiar. Shin begins visiting Minato's laundromat more often. According to Shin, the washing machine at home is usually occupied since he comes from a big family with multiple siblings. He enjoys quiet time at the laundromat, keeping Minato company. Saki came to Minato's hometown seeking an explanation for their breakup. Initially, Minato avoided the topic and wouldn't tell her the truth. However, he comes out to her at the end of this episode. Minato changes his mind because he feels troubled by his indecisiveness. He sees parallels between Shin and Maki, who are hurt because Minato won't commit to them. By coming out, Minato takes a courageous step in owning up to his past mistakes. He wants to be honest, handle his relationships considerately, and stop hiding from his problems. A second season was announced on April 23, 2023, and is set to premiere in July 2023. [20] Kanai returned to direct the series, while Hitomi Yamashita and Ryo Kawasaki were added as new co-directors. This episode features a fun hypothetical scenario. Minato freaks out because he believes Shin is ashamed of disclosing their relationship publicly. So far, Minato is the only one acting self-conscious about their romance. The story throws a twist, asking us to imagine Shin may be ashamed of his boyfriendtoo. Oh, how the turntables have turned! In the end, it's a comical misunderstanding. Shin's infatuation is his character's defining trait. Minato's Laundromat wouldn't be the same if he suddenly stopped loving Minato. Shin, the voice in your heart is spilling out."LOL. That line is funny. Minato and Shin's living arrangementis a welcomed development. It opens up new scenarios for the couple to flirt. In Season 1, their relationship scenes consist of mostly intimate encounters at the laundromat. In contrast, the characters are constantly near each other as roommates. Seeing them interact in their day-to-day routines adds a new dimension to their romance. Shin is a first-year university student working toward a medical profession. Although Shin used to be a gifted swimmer, he gave up his athletic aspirations after an injury. Since then, he has pursued his new dream of becoming a doctor. In addition to his studies, Shin begins working a part-time job. He gives tutoring lessons to high school students at a cram school. Shin works at the same school as Shu, a neighbourhood friend.

On April 7, 2023, Yen Press announced at Sakura-Con that they had licensed the series for North American distribution in English. [9] Volume list [ edit ] No. The latest BL drama series to be released by TV Tokyo. Streaming synchronously with Japan on GagaOOLala! Plot wise, we've got whole side plot of Sakuma Takayuki which was stretched so bad, taking too much screen time and becoming quite an annoying addition to the drama. The teacher might have been the sweetest dude ever, but that plot should have been resolved in 2 episodes max. This episode is successful because I enjoy learning about Minato's past. We get to know him better as an individual. I like him reminiscing about his high school memoriesand contemplating his past regrets. His introspection culminates in a captivating swimming pool scene at the end. After opening up to Shin, they fall into the pool together. The couple is on the cusp of sharing a passionate kiss, but Minato stops him just in time. I love the intimate ambiance, heightened emotions & the exciting buildup of sexual tension. Shin's performer (Sho Nishigaki) is dazzling. I remember he was a good actor in Season 1. Watching Minato's Laundromat 2 refreshes my memory of how charismatic he is. All his expressions and responses seem genuine, whether happy, sad, or angry. When Shin is happy, he beams with pride and excitement. When Shin is upset, he wrestles between expressing disappointment and maintaining composure. And when feeling flirty, desire takes over his demeanour. Sho is just so spot-on in every scene!July 27) List of tankōbon released today]. Natalie (in Japanese). July 27, 2021 . Retrieved May 7, 2023. I've been ragging on Shin, but I do empathize with his character. Put yourself in his shoes. Imagine if you're a gay high school student in Japan, where the norm is for guys and girls to court each other. You don't have many options in your regular dating pool. Once you stumble upon a laundromat owner who's also gay, you latch onto him out of kinship. Finally, you find someone capable of returning your feelings, even if he's out of your age group. The drama adaptation stars Bullet Train member Takuya Kusakawa [ ja] as Akira and Sho Nishigaki [ ja] as Shintaro. [3] The supporting cast includes Seiji Fukushi as Takayuki Sakuma, Yu Inaba as Shu Sakuma, Tomoya Oku [ ja] as Asuka Hanabusa, and Hana Toyoshima [ ja] as Sakurako Katsuki. [4] Sayuri Inoue was later cast as Saki Machida, an original character for the TV drama who serves as Akira's former roommate and ex-girlfriend. [18] The opening theme is "Gyutto" by Chō Tokimeki Sendenbu and the ending theme is "Tsuitachi" by Kaeri no Kai. [18] [19] Season 2 revolves around Minato coming to terms with his repressed feelings. Minato's instinct is to resist his young lover's physical and emotional intimacy. He slowly becomes more comfortable, embarking on a lengthy self-acceptance journey. As Shin flirts with him, Minato gets flustered and denies his obvious attractionhysterically. These exchanges can be amusing. Yet, Minato's rejections seem frustrating sometimes. He makes a big fuss about the tiniest moments of affection. I prefer a love story where the couple's desires flow passionately and reciprocally. The humour in this series comes from Minato's bashfulness around his love interest. Minato overreacts to Shin's romantic advances or overthinks innocuous scenarios. He fights against his attractiondue to self-consciousness. Sometimes, I'm annoyed with him. Don't agree to be in a relationship if you aren't ready to commit physically or emotionally. Yet, I like seeing his psychological barriers come down. Episode by episode, Minato advances on his self-acceptance journey. He gets closer to embracing his feelings for Shin.
