About this deal

This document collection on the reign of James I allows students and teachers to develop their own questions and lines of historical enquiry on the nature of monarchical power, challenges to the Church of England and the relationship between king and parliament. The documents are arranged according to themes which include James I’s extravagance; the Hampton Court Conference, the impact of Catholicism; union with Scotland, relations between crown and parliament, and the Spanish match. Again, for those students studying the civil wars which broke out in the reign of Charles I, this collection includes access a couple of documents which reflect the relationship Charles had with his parliaments. Her role as the scheming Catherine de’ Medici on “Regin” may be over, but Follows’ career continues to thrive. Elizabeth I - the last Tudor monarch - was born at Greenwich on 7 September 1533, the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. Buoyed by Prince Francis' successful taking of Calais and Queen Mary Tudor I's death at forty-two, King Henry wants to immediately invade England despite their forces being depleted. Queen Mary is aware of this arrangement, as she deliberately planted Aylee as her spy for Queen Catherine. Pagans are practicing human sacrifice to appease a creature in the woods; one of the pagans tells Bash he has to kill someone to replace the victim he had removed before the ritual was complete. Queen Mary learns that Kenna is having an affair with King Henry and advises her to end it, but Kenna refuses; claiming that King Henry is planning to make her his new mistress to replace Lady Diane. Later years

Despite the combination of financial strains and prolonged war after 1588, Parliament was not summoned more often. There were only 16 sittings of the Commons during Elizabeth's reign, five of which were in the period 1588-1601. Although Elizabeth freely used her power to veto legislation, she avoided confrontation and did not attempt to define Parliament's constitutional position and rights. The Queen’s Patronages and charities covered a wide range of initiatives, from creating opportunities for young people, to preserving wildlife and the environment. As Royal Patron or President Her Majesty provided vital publicity for the work of these organisations, and allowed their enormous contributions to society to be recognised.
