About this deal

That said, he thinks both the IBD and the OLAES are awesome. The only negative with the OLAES is its size. Notice the OLAES has a plastic cup on it. Using pressure dressing is one of the most effective methods to control hemorrhage. This method stops bleeding, generally, by employing a bandage that can go over the wound followed by a layer of absorbent dressing material. It is then topped by an adhesive, stretchable cover that wraps the area with tight pressure. Emergency tourniquets are used in emergency bleeding control to prevent severe blood loss from limb trauma. Traditionally, emergency tourniquets are generally used as a last resort, especially in civilian applications, due to the understanding that if all blood flow below the application of an emergency tourniquet is stopped, it would subsequently kill the tissue, leading to eventual loss of the limb below application. If those things do not control the bleeding then a turniquet is the next option, but there are hazards associated with the use of turniquets. Learn these hazards. If ya don’t know what you’re doing you can cause the loss of a limb by inappropriately cutting off all blood flow for extended periods of time. Every haemostatic agent (brand and type) is different and familiarisation training should be sought.

A pressure applicator placed over the wound to stop bleeding by applying pressure. [2] It allows changing the direction of the bandage and wrapping it around the wound once in various directions. It also makes bandaging easier. It is especially useful for stopping bleeding in groin and head injuries. [3] Pressure applicator: The pressure applicator is a U-shaped bar attached to the outside of the elastic band. You can weave the elastic through the pressure bar, applying firm, direct pressure.

Wrap the bandage tightly around the wound — even over the pressure applicator clip. Don’t worry about that little string, it’s just there to keep the bandage together as you unwrap it. Unwrap the bandage hard enough that the string pops and keep going.

Fortunately, I have not had reason to break into my supply of NAR consumables and I hope that that continues. When the bandage's inventor, Bernard Bar-Natan, was in training to become an Israeli military medic in 1984, he noticed that the bandages issued for bleeding control had a manufacture date of 1942 or sometimes even 1938. He also noticed that more current styles had the same design and the same features as 1942 bandages. [1] [6] The trainees were advised to grab a stone and to use it to apply pressure to a wound that would not clot on its own. Bar-Natan started work on a new generation of bandages that would not rely on the "grab a stone" approach, but would have a pressure bar built into the bandages themselves. [1] Subsequent wrappings of the leader secures and maintains the pad in place over the wound, and by covering all the edges of the pad acts as a sterile secondary dressing. The bandage leader is woven to remain at its full width and will not bunch up or twist itself into a rope. Self-adhesive bandages are not typically thought of as bleeding control dressings. These bandages are more often used as compression bandages for orthopedic use (such as RICE). The most common example of their use for bleeding control is to use them on skin tears. Reflex Medical kindly supplied the T3 bandage in this review, and they have offered a 10% storewide discount to BCUK members using code BUSHCRAFTUK21 until June 2021.He set his mind to the problem at hand, and the Israeli battle dressing was the result. By 2010 he was running nearly 250 first aid training courses a year.
