About this deal

I felt like the story was more focused on the two sisters and their strained relationship than it was on the kidnapping. DCI Jonah Sheens is enjoying a rare afternoon at the local pub garden with his baby daughter when a young girl suddenly appears, bloodied and seemingly disorientated.

Deliciously dark, looking at a divisive incredibly cutting relationship that exists between two sisters, Little Sister is most definitely one to watch in 2017.It becomes clear relatively early in the book who is responsible for Daisy's disappearance but the growing understanding of the sisters and their convoluted relationship holds the novel together. Don't get me wrong, Little Sister is a well written novel, and Isabel Ashdown explores the conflicts and tensions within the family unit with skill, but the characters felt rather lifeless and two-dimensional to me. There is a one-year-old child missing, and I’m keeping my voice down for the sake of your sister out there but in child abduction cases time is of the essence. An enchanting collection of stories about the most famous little sister in the world, with the beautiful and iconic illustrations by Shirley Hughes. Marlowe is now summoned to the station, where the police rough him up but, after an interview with the District attorney, he is released to "straighten things out" himself.

The story is set in Los Angeles in the late 1940s and follows Marlowe's investigation of a missing persons case and blackmail scheme centered around a Hollywood starlet. The missing baby story is a four-star throwaway, but the sisters’ relationship will continue to haunt me. She insists the clues to where Nina is are hidden are in her story, but if Jonah and his team follow those miniscule hints will they indeed find the missing sister or will they simply be playing some macabre game of Keely’s, whose ending might very well be dark, dangerous and deadly?

Detective Jonah Sheens is enjoying a moment of peace and quiet, when a teenage girl wanders out of the wood. Interspersed between both sister’s perspectives in the present day, we see them reflecting on their childhood. Exploring the darker side of sibling rivalry, Isabel Ashdown, her writing as perfect as ever, skilfully unpicks this tangled web of mistrust to give us a story that grips hard from the start. She is quickly identified as Keely Lennox, the elder of two teenage sisters missing from a care home for several days. She used goes to reason where I'd have used stands to reason, born was used and not borne and the second a wasn't needed here-"She'd had a few a blips" and purposely was used and not purposefully. Little Sister is a tense psychological study of a modern family in crisis when a traumatic event happens, bringing devastating secrets (some long-held) out into the open. She studied English at Cambridge University and received an MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia. You are never quite sure what will happen next and the end was definitely not what you would expect.
