About this deal

Earlier that evening David had gone to Buck’s Hill pub with a friend, where he drank around 7 pints of beer.

When Clive and Elsie first arrived on the scene, they were just calmly speaking with each other, they did not look like parents who had just brutally murdered their three children. As a result, it became increasingly difficult for David and his siblings to build worthwhile bonds and friendships with other children so they only really had one another. The Southport 'Friday the 13th killer' had been left in charge of the children by their father Clive Ralph while he went to pick up his wife Elsie - also known as Dorothy - from work. Before going to pick up Elsie, Clive went to pick up David and take him home to look after the children. He turned up at his parents’ house one day looking very defeated, dropped his bags on the floor, and said, “I’m out.The couple already had two children, three-year-old Paul and 20-month-old Dawn and they lived not far from where David’s parents lived. Clive had picked McGreavy up from the Vauxhall and brought him home to look after the children while Clive went to get Elsie from work. At a time never made clear, but sometime between 10:15pm and 11:15pm, a still drunk Mcgreavy lost his temper with the Ralph children. David McGreavy killed four-year-old Paul Ralph, and his sisters Dawn, two, and Samantha, nine months, in Worcester in 1973. He’d often bounce Dawn and Samantha on his knees for hours at a time to amuse them:“He seemed just like a normal person really.

The parents struggled to try to comprehend how someone so close to them could do this, especially without a motive. By the late 60’s David was stationed at Portsmouth Naval base in Portsmouth England, where he joined his first ship, HMS Eagle. McGreavy was told he must remain under closed prison conditions but the judge imposed a ban on naming McGreavy to protect him from other prisoners. Once the fire grew up and out of control, and he was certain the book had been destroyed, he went and alerted people. On Thursday June 28 1973, nine weeks after the killings, he appeared at Worcester Magistrates court. It is the most powerful person in the household because it is the child’s timetable that dictates how that house will operate: the child wakes up, it has to be fed; the child has to have a nappy changed. Most of his sentence has been served with him under protection, as he has been subject to abuse from other prisoners.
