About this deal

My journey has seen me as an owner of sophisticated bars and renowned liquor shops, and even as a Mezcal distiller, honing the craft from scratch.

As a MASSIVE tequila fan, I thought I would give this one a go - I had heard that it was great value but, as far as tasting notes went, all I could seem to find on the internet were Speciality Brands' own notes (runner bean nose, peppery palate, white chocolate, blah blah blah), followed by the suggestion (again penned by Speciality Brands) that if I didn't like this tequila, I may as well give up drinking tequila, since Tapatio Blanco is the ESSENCE of what a blanco should be... Finish: A medium length finish. There's a great agave peppery finish that goes really well with the agave and citrus sweetness flavors. Wonderful finish. Tequila may be bottled without maturation or aged in oak barrels. The length of aging determines how it is labeled: Colorless blanco or silver tequila is aged fewer than two months in oak; reposado between two and 12 months; añejo for more than one year. Extra añejo is a category added in 2006 that includes tequila aged at least three years in oak vats under 600 liters. Generally, the longer tequila ages in oak, the smoother and more full-bodied it becomes. Pueblo Viejo Blanco: P.V. is such a great baseline tequila. We’ve carried it for years, and it is such an authentic product that never wavers in quality. Our chef and my friend at Borrachito, Yuval, swears by it. Considering he is from Tequila, I side with him on this one.” —Max Stampa-Brown, beverage director, The Garret Group, NYCI’ve been really heavy into Espresso Martinis and whiskey-based classics lately, but have been switching out the base spirits for the PATRÓN Añejo Sherry Cask. Rich wood and a slight touch of sweeter sherry notes all play together beautifully to create a delicious base. It is a limited release from the hacienda, so run, don’t walk to your nearest bottle shop and get it before it’s gone.” —Phil Collins, beverage director, TableOne Hospitality ( Mother Tongue, Los Angeles/ La Société Bar& Cafe, San Francisco), NYC Made by Felipe Camarena, G4 is a testament to the mad scientist approach he takes in producing his tequilas. From modifying steamrollers to crush his agave, through to collecting and using rainwater in this tequila, he doesn’t take any shortcuts. The result is an expressive, floral nose and an oily, viscous palate with incredible minerality, cream, agave and spicy white pepper. Alc 40%

Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or just dipping your toes into this world, I invite you to join me as we explore the fascinating realm of these legendary spirits. Tapatío Blanco: A handmade tequila that is respectful of tradition and process. Tapatío Blanco is transparent about process and ultimately a tequila that allows natural flavors of agave shine.” —Harrison Ginsberg, bar director, Overstory, NYC However you choose to drink them, here are a few great bottles to get you started… The best blanco tequilas: 12 to tryA juicy and well-made blanco for a tequila Old Fashioned is my first thought — something like Gran Centenario, or even more affordable, el Jimador. Añejo such as Corzo or the Select Barrel line from Milagro for a tequila Manhattan on special occasions is great as well.” Made by legendary distiller Carlos Camarena, Ocho made waves when it was launched because it was the first-ever single-field Tequila to be produced. These single-field vintage releases are limited – once they’re gone, they’re gone, to be replaced by a new vintage from a different field later. This particular Tequila, from the field Las Presas, or The Dams, is all tropical characters of guava, melon and pineapple, mingling with the unmistakable agave and pepper character that come with Ocho products. Alc 40% The El Tesoro line of tequilas is a personal favorite of mine. They grow their agave in the highlands region of Jalisco in a high altitude with mineral-rich soil. Their blanco is particularly peppery with really pleasant fresh grassy notes. It’s great on its own or makes a surprisingly complex Margarita.”
