About this deal

The fourth Mitford novel, A New Song, won both the Christy and Gold Medallion awards for outstanding contemporary fiction in 2000. Her grandfather fought over the same issue when he planned to assassinate propaganda minister Goebbels. The role of French resistance fighters is also highlighted, along with many other historical phenomena that give the book an aura of authenticity.

Tu nadzieja zdaje się umierać ostatnia, utrwalając bezradność jednostki w obliczu głuchej bezwzględności. So, when I saw that Kummerow had a new book release, A Light in the Window, I knew I had to read it as I really enjoy her writing style and how easily Kummerow can draw you into her stories. Though ‘A Light in the Window’ is a work of historical fiction it is told against the factual settings of mainly Berlin and Paris over December 1941 and January 1942.

Father Tim and Cynthia's love for each other is expressed; but what to do about it is one of the conflicts of the story. I have always said that I love stories and characters that can garner a reaction out of me whether it is awe, hate, love, horror, etc. Without preaching, it successfully delivers the method of the utmost simplicity, something of which I think our Father would approve. But as the bombers disappear and the dust slowly settles, Margerete is the only one left standing in the rubble.

This reads like it was made for a TV series, which I am surprised it has not been made into for PBS yet! Instead of his sister he finds Margerete has been passing herself off as Annegret and is immediately angered. There are thousands, probably millions, of readers who will love you and treasure you for all that you are. Not rationalizing how her actions would be seen she goes on the run knowing if the girls' brothers see her the game will be over.

Again, I loved the characters, Father Tim is wonderful, and when his secretary, girlfriend, and other characters are developed, I just can sit back and just enjoy a plain good, clean story with so much enjoyment. Right from the explosive opening page of Marion Kummerow’s new book, A Light in the Window, the story of Margarete unfolds at a breakneck pace with innumerable twists and turns that leads to an incredible story full of sacrifice and danger. But I have to say this about the Mitford series, and Jan Karon's writing: There are many, many characters in her books, but each of them is so perfectly drawn and fleshed out, there is no confusion over who is who and who does what. I can always count on Marion Kummerow to pen a compelling historical fiction novel that grabs my attention, holds it and rewards me with a plethora of knowledge learned! I hate soap operas and these books (except possibly for the "Wedding Book" which i couldn't get through) don't "slump" into soap opera mode. During a bombing raid in Berlin the house is bombed and she assumes the identity of the families daughter Annegret who perished with her parents during the raid and is similar in looks and age.

After writing several non-fiction books, she felt drawn to the past and the subject of resistance to the Nazi regime. She loves to put her characters through the mangle, making them reach deep within to find the strength to face moral dilemma, make difficult decisions or fight for what is right. but when I lived in the countryside 20 years ago, OMG it was like a horror movie to see all the enormous moths battling against the glass for entry [shudders! Anja studied Human Anatomy at Edinburgh University before going on to study art at Falmouth College of Art.I was also happier reading this story since it focused on only a few of the characters and did not have as much character introductions, as the first book did. It’s 1941 and World War II is raging on and Margarete Rosenbaum is working as a housemaid for a senior Nazi officer.
