About this deal

Installation of the Thinkware U1000 is no different to any other dash cam and you have the choice of installing it via the brand’s 12V adapter or hardwiring it to the car. Speed camera alerts are a nice bonus, but this can be switched off if you find the notification annoying. We like how there’s no display to distract the driver, and instead the Thinkware disappears neatly out of view. The rear, 2K resolution camera works just as well, but you might want a professional to install the long cable through your car interior. Verdict Impact Detection - Built-in G-Sensor to monitor any impact to the vehicle and will wake up the U1000 within a second to start recording

Thinkware U1000 Dash Cam -4K UHD 2160p Front Car Dash Camera

The U1000 is Thinkware’s newest flagship model that delivers sharp native 4K video quality and boasts a comprehensive driver assistance warning system to help keep drivers safe on the road. The U1000 can be accessorized with a 2K QHD rear view camera and hardwiring cable for complete, best-in-class 24/7 all-round protection.

Considering the expensive price tag that comes with the Thinkware U1000, you would expect it to have some standout features and it certainly does. The main feature is of course the impressive 4K UHD 2160P video footage that allows you to view all the road conditions and surroundings in great detail. I doubt anyone would be disappointed with the U1000. Its capabilities and build quality are top of its class, with the best dashcam video quality I’ve ever seen. Once your dash cam powers on, you will hear “Update will now start.” This may take a few minutes to complete. Ensure your dash cam stays powered on for the duration of the update. For those who demand the best parking surveillance: The U1000 comes with all the advanced parking mode features with Energy Saving recording mode, Time Lapse, Motion and Impact detection. Pair it with the optional RADAR sensor and you can further extend parking mode runtime as well as record a longer pre- and post-incident footage. Later in the year (End of Autumn hopefully), the U1000 will have a FREE Update which means when your dashcam is connected to a Wi-Fi network (public, private, or via mobile hotspot), the Q800 Pro connection will provide the new latest features. These utilise a Thinkware account system, delivering push notifications to smartphones with the relevant app.

Hardwiring means an excellent parking mode, which provides low-power surveillance. This can be enhanced further with the optional radar detector. It wakes the camera up when objects are nearby – even if they don’t trigger motion detection or bump the car. As it is, our test setup seems quite happy to wake up for noisy motorbikes and big lorries that are merely passing. Using the latest Image Signal Processing (ISP) technology, which brings real-time image processing to the table, this captures images and records videos of up to 10 times brighter even in low-light environments like dark alleyways or underground parking lots for peace of mind.Remote Live View, Parking Incident Notification (third party kit needed of data SIM and powered Wi-Fi dongle in the vehicle) The Thinkware U1000 4K Dash Cam is the new Flagship camera from Thinkware. It’s one of the most advanced Dash Cameras currently on the market and is the upgrade from our bestselling DashCam, the Thinkware Q800. The U1000 comes as either a Front Only System or a Front & Rear System. It’s twice as powerful as the original Q800! Geo-Fencing – Users can set geographical zones, allowing for notifications when the vehicle drives in and out of the pre-selected boundaries. Practical for the parents, rental companies, and fleet management.

Identically wide-angle cameras front and rear benefit from clever software that keeps distortion to a minimum. Curvature and stretched perspective are restricted to the edges of the footage. Even in bright light or twilight the cameras work very well. At night they’re better than average, but still generally overwhelmed by headlights or excessive streetlights. In town and at low speeds, the video is very crisp and clear, with good colour and broad dynamic range. There are buttons for manual recording, power, and for switching Wi-Fi and audio recording on or off. A microSD card slot is easily accessible on the side of the unit, and a 64GB card is included. All footage is saved in a MP4 format (compatible with most systems if you need to export the footage) The integrated Super Capacitors and Thermal Sensor provide added safety and reliability in extreme temperatures.F ront Vehicle Departure Warning - After stopping at an intersection, it alerts the driver when the vehicle in front has started advancing while your vehicle remains stationary. Once an impact is detected, the dash cam will wake up within a second and record for next 20 seconds of period. The U1000 rear camera is equipped with a 5.14MP Sony Exmor R Starvis image sensor. It is essentially the same image sensor that was used in the Q800PRO front camera, allowing the U1000 rear camera to record in 2K QHD. The rear camera also comes with a 150° wide-angle lens view and the advanced video enhancement technologies found in the front camera to deliver crystal-clear quality in all lighting situations.
