Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Initially I struggled with the structure of the book but as I continued i became hooked as the background to the cause of the crime is slowly exposed. The brutal crime appears to be without motive, and the elderly nuns in residence can offer little help in the police investigation. In addition to solving the mystery, both main characters each get a more drama-like sub-plot ( revolving around their ex-partners), which allows for a lot of extra characterisation too. Not even the icy temperatures of a typical New England winter can match the bone-chilling scene of carnage discovered in the early morning hours at the chapel of Our Lady of Divine Light.

But in all it's imperfection, confusing German names and ridiculous police procedures that would never happen in real life(at least where I'm from), I forgave it and the story took a hold of me. sin is a lord, does his usual 3yrs abstinence and then decides that his sister's best friend (aka his childhood luuuver) is his. I'm struggling because I just feel something is missing from this book and I'm not quite sure how to put it into words. It’s hard to say too much about the plot for fear of spoiling the read for others, but it is based on so many carefully layered psychological aspects from deception, to control and guilt that mean it is perfectly titled. Sometimes Cora admits to the reader that she’s lying but sometimes she’s not even sure if she’s lying.Cora goes on about a billion tangents and you have no idea what is the truth, what is a lie, and what she is just making up because she doesn't actually remember the truth. The 32-page account of Lacenaire’s trial he stumbled upon came accompanied by evocative engravings: the murderer well dressed in his top hat, cravat and high collar; someone about to swing an axe; the incongruous detail that Lacenaire had received a good education and wrote poetry. I can't believe how long it took me to finish it, and when I finally read the last page I was like "really? Also, definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings on this as pasty of the storyline covers child sexual abuse/grooming.

It has been quite a while since I read the novel, and I was binge-reading lots of other novels that year too, so I don’t really remember the exact details of the toxicology report in the story.

sin tricks elli into becoming his wife even though he was promised to someone else, and these 2 just can't have a simple conversation.

The Sinner has been adapted for television as a limited series on USA starring Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman. I’ve recorded the TV series and will probably watch it even though I now know what’s going to happen. Ovviamente la nostra protagonista verrà arrestata subito e passeremo i seguenti capitoli sul suo passato che alla lunga anche se ci svela particolari diventa noioso e ripetitivo. My recommendation is to throw out any preconceived notions because you can’t possibly be prepared for this roller coaster.Prior to reading this novel, I had no idea it contained a theme of religious fanaticism and when you couple that with the truth we finally get to know, it made sense but at the same time, it was very underwhelming. Despite the challenges presented by the trigger warnings, Tessier's storytelling prowess shines through.

the plot's seriously fucked up, like i'm surprised elli's still functioning in society after everything. The Sinner is of a society very different from ours, their rules extremely barbarous: it's eat, kill, fuck, sleep, of course people growing in that society has no problem adapting to it. It's particularly interesting that Magdalena is both transparent, weak, seemingly just about incapable of even basic communication; yet she's ultimately revealed as a much stronger personality, capable of manipulation, more able than originally contemplated.I don't know if my reaction to this is due to the author or to the author's translator, but the fact remains that this book had an intriguing premise, but the payoff wasn't enough to slog through 300 pages of twisted games (and not in the good way), confusing narration, and boring side plots. Beneath its layers of startling insight into the souls of its characters, and the richly wrought depiction of the everyday war between good and evil, beats the unstoppable heart of an irresistible thriller.
