About this deal

Testing the two balls side by side, we found the newer model was a few yards longer, thanks to a lower spin rate (around 300rpm less than the original). Is it the 338-dimple pattern that “enhances the aerodynamics” of the ball for a more penetrating flight? When it comes to total distance, the Pro V1 was, on average, about 5 yards longer than the Kirkland golf balls.

Given that it was off the tee where the original version of this ball had the most room for improvement, let’s start with the driver performance. The soft urethane cover of this ball features a new proprietary TPU with improved scuff resistance and impact endurance making the ball more durable. When it comes to the descent angle, we calculated an average angle of 50º with the Kirkland and 51º with the Pro V1. So when I went to the simulator to test the Kirkland against other balls, I looked at those spin numbers. It’s just a few yards here and there, but the spin rates are something to watch out for if you are a golfer known to generate a ton of spin with your current golf equipment. Read more about the seller notes “Grade A - Our A-grade golf balls are in lightly used condition and represent excellent value for money. Spin around the greens is average with the Kirkland Signature golf balls and here is where you will see the biggest drop from a premium golf ball. I MAY be willing to pay 3x the cost of a ball if I may save 4-5 strokes using a premium ball……any thoughts on this?

Work on hitting your golf ball straighter, so you can use the Pro V1 for more than just one round of golf (Editorial comment from Will – brutal Britt, but I can’t fault your advice! that I was losing at least a half club in distance with everything 9 iron and above due to their spin. These golf balls can enter the ecosystem releasing microplastics and toxic chemicals into the food chain. It was closer to the green that we felt the original Costco ball was at its best, providing similar control to what you’d expect from a much more expensive Tour ball. The first version was discontinued because the raw ingredients purchased for production of Costco’s balls eventually ran out and couldn’t be replaced or sourced.

I get that lots of golfers think it doesn’t matter or that they’re not good enough to tell the difference (whether you observe it or not, the differences are nonetheless real). Costco grabbed golfers’ attention across the globe when they released their original Kirkland Signature ball with its three-piece design and urethane cover drawing comparisons with the best golf balls. If my game was only this inconsistent I would be ecstatic, but for my ball I guess I expect a bit better. The Kirkland Signature Three-Piece Urethane Cover Golf Ball Performance Plus comes in two 12-count boxes; 24 balls in total. I’d say the biggest factor here is how it spins with “your shot” and if you get along with the feel.
