A TRRRS or Tip Ring Ring Ring Sleeve plug has five conductors. So far, I have seen it in a very few Sony products that allow for bidireccional stereo unbalanced. Some permitted and prohibited combinations In some cases, compatibility between your devices is not the problem - it’s actually connecting them. A TRRS to TRRS adapter doesn’t convert your connection type in any way, but rather provides additional cable length, allowing you to reach otherwise inaccessible locations. The older OMTP wiring standard calls for Tip to be used for left audio, Ring 1 to be used for right audio, ring 2 to be used for microphone, and the sleeve to be used for ground. USB-A – You should be familiar with this type of cable. USB-A is one of the most common connections found on virtually every modern computer (and many other devices). I recently got a Dell laptop with TRRS connector. I got a CTIA adapter with male TRRS that plugs into the Dell. On the other end there are 2 female 3.5mm connectors, labeled Earphone & Microphone. The earphones work fine in stereo. The stereo line in feed is converted to mono, merging both channels together. The previously mentioned adapters were all designed to connect one device to another, but there are also cables that can connect three devices together. These cables are called “splitters”, or sometimes “Y-splitters” due to their distinctive shape. When I plug regular headphones to the bluetooth receiver, the sound is extremely distorted, so I thought maybe it acts as a big-ass amplifier and since the speakers are not self-powered, maybe I just needed an amplifier, but the result is still the same. There are issues with 2014 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models as well as late 2013 iMac models, making them not compatible. The SC2 is a 3.5mm TRS to TRS patch cable used for connecting microphones or wireless receivers to cameras. The coiled cable means that the SC2 can easily extend from 170mm to up to 400mm.

Even more surprising to me: by connecting the free male RCA connector to any of the two connected ones, I get a huge boost in power (though not in all frequencies). I realize this is just shorting out two channels, right? I saw that regarding TRRS, there are different wiring standards with ground and mic/video inverted, still, normally left channel should be wired to the tip and right channel to the first ring, is that correct? There are even more types of adapters that enable compatibility with TRRS smartphones. TRRS to USB-C adapters, TRRS to Lightning adapters, TRRS to TS adapters . . . the list goes on. Whatever device you choose to connect with your smartphone, odds are that there is an adapter cable to make that happen.

I am not a native speaker of English and I know some terms I use here might be wrong. If so, please edit the question to make it more clear :) Will I eventually fry my cell phone/tablet if I keep shorting the cables like I mention above? I haven't tried it for more than a few seconds at a time. Our friends at the MOTIV team at Shure has come up with an ingenious way of combatting the error many of my friends have innocently made by plugging in their earbuds/mic —or even a high-end Bose headset with mic— with TRRS plug when they weren’t supposed to do that.
