Unlike previous reviewers I considered my saddle broken-in in less than a month of mostly weekend rides. I eventually shaved some leather off of that one, but it was still heavy as a brick and took FOREVER to break in. The Victorinox Bike Tool is effectively a mini socket set: the magnetic 5mm hex key detaches from the tool holder and then you fit any bit piece to it: the range includes 2-6mm hex keys, a T25 Torx key, and flat and cross-head screwdriver bits. Before getting into the details of types of bike chain lubrication, it is worth considering what exactly chain lubrication does.The oats supply a great low-GI fuel source, while the dried fruit offers instant energy and sweetness. As a result, in the back of my mind, I developed a deep desire to own a Brooks at some point in my life.

The comfort of the Swift comes from its shape, and its suspended leather design, which offers a surprising amount of suspension. After the break-in period, it is normal and proper to tension the saddle to retain its shape and comfort. The narrower contact patch adequately supports my sit bones with my torso rolled forward, yet the drop off at the corners and narrow nose keep the pressure off of places where you do not want it. As is the case with all of our hand manufactured saddles, the Swift proudly sports a metal nameplate at the rear, and is addition two embossed graphic details on the sides featuring the saddle name and incorporating an icon of a Swift in flight. There is a weight penalty even with the Ti frame, but in perspective this is less than a couple of deep swigs of drink.A set of wide-profile carbon wheels is the biggest single upgrade you will likely make to your gravel bike; saving weight, adding comfort, and improving handling. Apply a small amount of Proofide to the finished top side of the leather, allowing it to permeate until dry. Another benefit with this saddle is that on long hills I don't get pushed backwards, with the need to re-adjust my position every few minutes. One day I shall recoup this small weight gain from some other component, but I could not give up the Swift now.

So far I have only ridden the Swift with my Ibex knickers that have a chamois, but based on my initial impressions I look forward to this saddle when things warm up a bit and I get back to my normal shorts. I ride a gravel bike on the Isle of Wight more than I ride any other; it is the perfect way to explore the vast network of quiet roads and exciting open trails. Since reading about the intricate, careful and unique process, which creates every Brooks saddle by hand in the Birmingham factory, I really began to see the beauty of them.

The handsome Swift is the youngest leather racing saddle in the Brooks range, featuring delicately hand-skived lower flaps, where a thin stripe of the leather top surface is cut back, thus exposing the lighter coloured suede beneath, which makes for an attractive visual accent and greater comfort when pedalling. There is some justification for that — most of the systems lack the modulation and performance of their hydraulic counterparts. Have had a swift on my mountain bike for over three years and after a brief break-in period it is fantastic.
