About this deal

You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! With multiple levels of meta to the storytelling narrative, the reader is placed within the story itself as a stand-in for the “you” referred to throughout the tale about a book that’s told by a book. Tor Freeman graduated from Kingston University with a BA in Illustration in 1999 and has worked as an illustrator, author and comics-maker ever since.

This title provides a quirky look at the quandary of getting lost in a library and forming amusing observations about bookworms. Tor Freeman is an award-winning illustrator and comic-artist whose quirky illustrations perfectly pair with Ayoade’s words. Although it is in a library, it’s secreted away in the Miscellany section for books that ‘ don’t seem to belong anywhere else’. Our book says to us, "I find it rather upsetting to be picked up, flicked through, slammed shut", as he share with us why it wants to remain alone and unbothered.I didn’t know anything about him until someone told me that he has other funny books too and I can certainly vouch for that with this one! Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Reviews: * "Laugh out loud funny and full of heart" Noel Fielding * "Very funny, with brilliant illustrations. The illustrations are fun, it’s essentially a life lesson and literacy lesson all in one, and the concept is amazing. The Book That No One Wanted to Read is his first book written for younger readers, and his trademark dry and irreverent humour shines through brilliantly.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. John Agard also wrote a book narrated by a book, My Name is Book, also aimed at children, so this claim is not actually true. It’s up to Jake to either find the talent that lies within or embarrass himself in front of the entire school. Now I want to say here that Ayoade is in fact incorrect, this is NOT the first book to use this technique.Overall, I would give the book 3 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, clever and light read with great illustrations. Interspersed with imagined, telepathic dialogue between reader and book, this delightfully droll work casually covers everything from footnotes to story structure; information about excess unwanted books being “ pulped” by publishers leads to a gag about the book not wanting to be recycled into toilet paper. However, while I enjoyed the different elements of the book, I did feel that the book didn't quite live up to the sum of its parts. The theme of persistence (for better or worse) links four tales of magic, trickery, and near disasters.

He is best known for his role as socially awkward IT technician Maurice Moss in Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd, for which he won the 2014 BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance. Alongside the telepathic conversation that develops between the two, we’re treated to a history of books and then of libraries. The book would ask its reader to be in an imaginative situation where the reader would find a talking book, which thought that nobody wanted to read it. I absolutely loved this most bookish of books and can’t wait to see what Ayoade does next in children’s books. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! I often get (slightly) annoyed when a cover and/or the title seem to have little to nothing to do with the story. G. Wodehouse epigraph, setting the tone for a jocose metafictional narrative told from a book’s point of view. If there were books we think we could never accept though we have tried reading till the end - maybe we could discuss ways of how they could be better books.
