Both perfumes are aquatics with the salty seawater freshness of Blasted Heath – intended for men but women also have been wearing it – underpinned by tobacco and vetiver undertones, while Blasted Bloom (for women) is a unique combination of crisp leave-y brightness with a seductive musky warmth. These are unique and complex fragrances whose appeal grows the more they are worn. Besides what I've mentioned ⤴ the other pyramid notes either make brief appearances for me or play supportive roles IF noticed at all. Some of those cameos (like when I sense the whiskey, or the tobacco) are part of a continual changing process noticed during the life of Blasted Heath. It's a trip. Smelling these perfumes makes me REALLY afraid to try the current version of my favorite Penhaligon's fragrance: Hammam Bouquet. The musk used in this is absolutely wonderful and has a gentleman feel to it. More nuanced than other designer aquatics such as BLV or Davidoff. Slightly similar to sailing day but more aromatic and way stronger.There's a bitter citrus note that is not listed too, which makes the scent mandarin-like fresh, but that is really not prominent. As opening marine overdose softens, then the fragrance becomes much better, balanced. But then again, this fragrance smells amazing right off the first spray "in air", and outside. You only get the challenging notes when smelling up close. Much of Penhaligon's line is very 'prim and proper'. Equinox Bloom steers away from the usual conservative soliflores this house is known for and experiments with a heavy dose of brown sugar. This fragrance smells like white vanilla frosting on my skin. I find its sweetness oddly appealing and somewhat refreshing.

I kept the blotter with me for a day, and I quite liked the dry down... But I need association for a perfume to get my love... This is a very fresh floral fragrance with a strong undercurrent of marine elements that intensify with time. It effectively supports the idea of flowers by the sea. The marine complex suggests the use of materials like Calone or Scentenal but they harmonise nicely and the effect is not too synthetic. Those who remember Faberge's New West will feel in familiar territory here, though this perfume is decidedly better. I asked when is Penhaligon ever going to release an aquatic scent and the representative serving me said that they were going to release one soon, but unfortunately, it's not for sale yet. However, he let me sample it from their sample vials. For over a century, Penhaligons has been crafting some of the most alluring fragrances that have captivated millions around the world. Despite being a highly sought-after brand, Penhaligons hasnt lost it’s touch with the masses. In fact, the brand has a stellar reputation among many prominent figures in the entertainment and fashion world. For instance, Englands royal family features high on the list of Penhaligons loyalists. The fact that they’ve held two royal warrants from the Prince of Wales and the Queen since 1956 and 1988, respectively, showcases the brand’s impeccable quality and class.

However, there is a dupe, and I seriously mean an (almost) EXACT duplicate of this fragrance. It took me all of four hours to remember what this was as I patiently waited for the drydown to prove me wrong in my assumption**. I think of Blasted Bloom and Blasted Health as perfumes (sand)'blasted' into banality and cleanliness with all interesting and vibrant bits of all notes they contain deleted — woods, leaves, tobacco, flowers, patchouli, etc. Aren't clean perfumes, drenched with white musks, on the way out? Perhaps Penhaligon's is just waaaay late to the Clean Party. Blasted Heath I got tempted and bought a full bottle (blind buy) for a very good price. I must say that I kind of expected how it would smell. For many others this wouldn't be a safe blind buy, so be aware. It turned out to be a ‘no brainer’ sweet scent that seemed modern yet different that I could wear in every season and virtually every occasion. Yes, it does remind me of milky tea with lots of brown sugar and a posy of tropical florals with tender green shoots draped beside my tea cup. It is just so easy for me to wear. Equinox Bloom is kind of an oddball to be honest, similar to the effect of Penhaligon's other creation, Amaranthine (which I am forever missing!!) with its mixture of really sweet gourmand + floral + milky elements. I can see how this might be almost gross but I find it addicting. Penhaligons also holds the Royal Warrant, one of the most prestigious honors bestowed upon British companies.
