About this deal

As of today, he lives happily in Norfolk, United Kingdom along with his wife Caroline Scarrow and two sons. In the year 2006, Simon was selected as the Writer in Residence at the Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys. He says that he was honored to have been accepted for the prestigious post. As a part of his job, Simon is required to visit the school regularly and hold several creative writing sessions in which the students participate to showcase their writing talents. Putting his life in danger to find the truth, Schenker carries out his investigations secretly and it becomes apparent these cases may be linked. Could the mild mannered doctor be involved in the horrendous murders of innocent children? This is Simon Scarrow's second book featuring Criminal Inspector Horst Schenke in Berlin shortly after the Nazi invasion of Poland. The fact that the reader feels sympathy for the characters is a credit to the author who has managed to imbue them with humanity. Even Liebwitz has redeeming features!Simon Scarrow is a popular novelist from the United Kingdom, who is best known for his novels based on the Historical Fiction genre. Till date, he has written a total of 5 novel series’ and the most notable novel series written by him is the Eagle Series. Schenke is a member of the minor aristocracy, whose family lost their fortune and influence during the uncontrolled inflation of the Depression years. He made his name as a driver for the Mercedes-BenzSilberpfeil (Silver Arrow) team who dominated international motor racing between 1934 and 1939, with their W25 cars reaching speeds of well over 170mph. A wonderfully compelling thriller, reeking of authenticity, and a terrific depiction of the human world within the chilling world of the Third Reich’ Peter James However, there were moments of dialogue that took me out of the plot, either unnecessary filler or to make grandiose statements about the themes of the novel - was it cowardice not to fight oppression? Is murder ever justified? How do morals and obligation intersect in such a twisted society? The novel did a good enough job of exploring these question without explicit comments by characters.

A exciting crime thriller set in 1939 Berlin. Shortly before Christmas a woman is found raped and murdered next to a city railway line. The victim is a former film star with connections to Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda for the Nazi party. Saying I enjoyed this book feels wrong in respect of the subject matter, but I did. The police inspector is a man torn between two women, one of whom is very dangerous to know. His sergeant is a family man with children who struggles with the case as does the ss officer, but for a different reason. Schenkes private life is also getting more complicated he has asked Karin to marry him, but then he knows he has some sort of feelings for Ruth. But with Ruth being Jewish that would be a dangerous relationship to be in.

Publication Order of Short Stories/Novellas

Simon Scarrow is an author that has been on my reading radar forever, but I never seem to have got around to. However, when I came across this, it seemed time to change that. I have long loved crime novels set during WWII and with no more Bernie Gunther novels forthcoming (with the ending of one of my all-time favourite series, due to the untimely death of Phillip Kerr), I thought I would give this a try.

This thriller charts the beat of German life as the steady rise of Heinrich Himmler’s brutal Gestapo sees it become the dominant force, deciding and enforcing decisions on almost every aspect. This stranglehold – act now and pass legislation to justify it later – is not just the driver, but also almost the key to the action. Other than the Eagle Series, Simon has also written a few other notable novel series’ including the Revolution series, which is based on Napoleon and Wellington. Apart from the novel series’, Simon has also penned down a couple of standalone novels. After that, they take up a mission which is full of conspiracies and threatens to endanger the life of the Emperor. The second novel of the series was published in the year 2001 by the Headline publishing house. The novel was titled ‘The Eagle’s Conquest’. They are first described as taking part in the battle in Germania and against the invasion of the Britishers by Claudius. In the later of the series, the two soldiers are described as serving in the Imperial Navy in the east of Italy.El inspector no está afiliado al partido y tiene grandes recelos sobre sus dirigentes, pero no le queda otra que asumir la investigación. Criminal Inspector Horst Schenke is assigned to investigate the murder of a former well-known actress and one time mistress of propaganda chief Josef Goebbels. Her hidden mixed-race – part Jewish – heritage offers rivals among the Nazi inner circle the chance to seriously embarrass or even destroy his standing with Hitler. THE STUNNING SECOND WORLD WAR THRILLER FROM THE CELEBRATED SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR SIMON SCARROW

Simon Scarrow is a British author of historical fictional novels. He was born on October 03, 1962. Simon’s novels have been published in the USA and translation all around the world. Simon Scarrow is a Sunday Times No. 1 bestselling author. If you like thrillers and Police Procedurals set during WW2, then Dead Of Night is definitely for you, the research Simon Scarrow puts into his work makes for such a visceral and realistic read, and it’s refreshing to have a different point of view with a Police Inspector who is German.Horst Franke former racingdriver and now policeman who does not want to chose for the Nazi-party but for his job as a policeman is doing Allright a short time before Christmas hunting down people who are counterfeiting foodstamps and dating a nice girl. This investigation, which is undertaken with German efficiency and strict protocol, Horst Schenke, who's not a Nazi Party member, is from now on closely watched in his doings and dealings from all angles within the Nazi Regime, and in these suppressing circumstances Horst Schenke and his team, consisting of Sergeant Hauser, female officers, Frieda Echs and Rosa Mayer and the probationer, Brandt, will have to conduct their investigation to the best of their abilities.
