For that reason, I felt like it was a bit of a slow burner to begin with, but I put that down to my erratic reading schedule more than the story itself. The twist and the spoiler come out at you, and can I just ask who the hell decided to market this as a rom-con? Misti: Did you actually dislike The Switch and The Road Trip or did you just not like them as much as The Flatshare?Janine: I think the only reason the manipulation didn’t bother me as much is because I was expecting *something. I’ve been hearing good things about this book, primarily that most of us made the same assumption, and many were pleasantly surprised. The Flatshare had the perfect balance of light and dark for her voice, I agree that the characters were lovable, and also the premise of sharing a one-bedroom apartment in shifts and leaving each other notes was fresh and charming.

There’s some unexpected twists that I didn’t see coming that make all the threads feel satisfying in the end. I’m not sure she’s achieved that level of characterization (though I liked the heroine of The Roadtrip quite a bit). It certainly wasn’t as steamy as The Road Trip, but the planning and time that must have gone into intertwining the lives of so many ‘real’ feeling characters whilst never once being confusing is a skill I think only Beth possesses!

I picked up The No-Show because based on the blurb, I thought this would be some sort of feminist revenge fantasy. I think readers (especially romance readers) will have a better experience with THE NO-SHOW if they go into it knowing it is NOT a romance, but women’s fiction with a twist. uk/landing-page/quercus/quercus-company-information/">The data controller is Quercus Editions Ltd. My default position with O’Leary is to check with trusted others that it is actually a romance before reading or listening.
