About this deal

FAST SPEAK OPTION Expanded Features of the C-Pen Reader 2: Multiple AccentsUse the C-Pen Reader 2™ to read printed text aloud for you. It features high quality naturally speaking English, American, Australian, British, Irish, Scottish and Indian accents, as well as Spanish (regular or Latin accents) and French voices. To find out whether your exam board has approval to use the C-Pen Exam Reader 2, please consult your awarding body for guidance.

The C-Pen Exam Reader 2 isn’t just a great investment in a student’s future, it’s also a valuable cost-saving tool for schools. This device nurtures reading independence, putting complete control in the learner's hands. Schools that make the switch from human readers to digital readers see a reduction in monthly outgoing costs, leaving them with more resources. A student who has a hard time reading the questions can hardly be expected to be able to provide proper answers. Exam Reader 2 assists the students to read the questions but offers no help with the answers. Using Exam Reader 2 with earphones enables these students to be in the same room as their piers when taking the test, saving school resources. Exciting Exam Reader 2 features Overall, I like it. It can be a great tool for my students with dyslexia. I feel it’s best for middle / high school students and above. And it is definitely great for college students! The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ has approval from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)* and Cambridge Assessment. As well as reasonable adjustments in the classroom, schools must put in place Exam Access Arrangements, which are reasonable adjustments for candidates who have the required knowledge and skills, but who can’t demonstrate this knowledge or skills due to their disability. These arrangements must not affect the integrity of the examination or give the learner an unfair advantage. Access Arrangements can include: We took everything great from the ExamReader and made major enhancements for the C-Pen Exam Reader 2™. Scanning speeds are even faster now with AI-supported text-to-speech. The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ also supports 10+ languages and features an audio-aided user interface to improve accessibility for all. Portable, Cost-Effective Exam Support The text you scan can be saved then uploaded to a computer via USB. I’ve actually had a few students simply scan the important phrases or paragraphs they need while studying, then upload them as study notes. I thought that was a cool and innovative use of the pen. Frequently Asked Questions Who should use a C Pen Reader? Exam Reader 2, the successor to our successful ExamReader, is a convenient portable off-line assistive text reader for printed text. Scan text with this state-of-the-art device and have text read out to you aloud in real time. Everything, including the natural speaking voices, is embedded in this off-line device and there is no need for computer or internet connections. Exam Reader 2 is specifically designed for use in tests and exams when a student requires reading assistance. No unauthorised material or content can be loaded onto ExamReader and it can *only* be used to support text reading. Test knowledge – not reading

All my interactions with the company who produce the pen have been positive. I’ve had one faulty C-Pen (I’ve worked with a lot of them in my time) and they happily accepted a return. We took everything great from the ExamReader and made major enhancements for the Exam Reader 2. Scanning speeds are even faster now with AI-supported text-to-speech. The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ also supports 10+ languages and features an audio-aided user interface to improve accessibility for all. Portable Cost-Effective Exam Support Don’t expect to use the pen on handwritten text. In fact, don’t expect it to work on fancy printed text or even cursive printed text. It’ll work fine for simple text (like the text you’re reading now) and common fonts like Arial, Tahoma and Calibri. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like Stephen Hawking. You’re not going to get smooth and perfect intonation of a natural human voice. There’s a long pause at periods or randomly in the middle of a sentence. You’ll also notice that they are prompt to respond to questions or review comments online, which I respect. It shows they care and are a customer-facing company. So I wanted to give them a shout-out for their customer service. What I didn’t like… This is an empowering tool for learners with dyslexia, so I think it’s worth the money. However, it’s best for people 10 years of age or older as it requires a steady and patient hand.

This is set by Hotjar to identify a new user’s first session. It stores a true/false value, indicating whether this was the first time Hotjar saw this user. Scanning speeds are even faster now with AI-supported text-to-speech. The C-Pen Exam Reader 2 also supports 10+ languages and features an audio-aided user interface to improve accessibility for all.Scan printed text in British English, American English, Australian English, Indian English, French, Canadian French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Flemish Dutch, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Mandarin, Cantones To find out whether your exam board has approval to use the C-Pen Exam Reader 2™, please consult your awarding body for guidance. Supported Languages* Easy Connectivity - The Exam Reader 2 includes a standard micro-USB connector for charging the battery, which provides hours of runtime from a single charge. There is also a 3.5mm connector, allowing users to plug in the included earbuds or their favourite headphones, so they can hear exam questions without disruption. What’s more, it captures words and locates them for you, giving you instant results. It also remembers the words you have looked up and keeps the history available for you.

I love that you can actually see the relief on the user’s face the first time they use it correctly. They listen to the dictation of the words and look up excitedly! That’s the look of excitement we’re all looking for as educators. The voice isn’t perfect, as I outline below. It sounds a little like Stephen Hawking. But for my college students, that wasn’t a concern for them at all. But there is the option to switch it over to a generic North American accent if you’re not a fan of the British one.I assume that it is quiet because it’s designed not to disturb the people around you. Which makes sense in classroom and exam situations. Most of my ‘cons’ are more just warnings to manage your expectations – I still love the pen! But here are some thoughts on things that I think you should know before buying it… Dyslexia can have a substantial and long term adverse effect on normal day to day activities, and therefore can be a recognised disability under the Equality Act 2010. The Act states that schools and higher education institutions have a duty to make 'reasonable adjustments' for disabled students (including students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia). The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ isn’t just a great investment in a student’s future, it’s also a valuable cost saving tool for schools. This device nurtures reading independence, putting complete control in the learner's hands. Schools that make the switch from human readers to digital readers see a reduction in monthly outgoing costs, leaving them with more resources. Other essential benefits The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) oversees Exam Access Arrangements for GCSE and GCE (A-Level) qualifications.
