About this deal

Sadly we weren't able to get our hands on the Oodie in time for this review so we can only compare this one in terms of specs. However, it’s the only blanket on this list that’s available in three weights, giving you ample opportunity to get the right weight for you. There are three different weights (4kg, 6kg and 8kg) so it’s ideal if you’re looking for different weights for different members of the family.

A weighted blanket may induce the sensation of being hugged, swaddled, or gently held. This engages the ‘5 senses’ by ‘grounding’ or ‘earthing,’ which in turn may induce a relaxing state and sense of calmness. The weighted blanket may gently push down on the body, helping you feel safe, secure, or in a protected space. Just as a firm, warm, and cozy hug can be a powerful agent for relaxation, a weighted blanket may help you wind down and de-stress before bed.” The table below lists our suggestions for the most common blanket weights. We’ve based our figures for ideal sleeper weight on the “10 percent rule.” The acceptable sleeper weight range figures are based on the general assumption that a sleeper will feel reasonably comfortable under a blanket that equals 5 to 12 percent of their own weight. For example, a 15-pound blanket will suit you if you weigh around 130 to 170 pounds. Meanwhile, a 20- or 25-pound blanket may provide more deep pressure for people who weigh between 180 and 220 pounds. Blanket Weight There are four main points to consider when choosing a weighted blanket. The first is choosing the right weight for your body size and you can read more on that below. Secondly, it’s important to choose the right size blanket. They come in a variety of lengths and widths so if you intend to use it at night, make sure you get the right size for your bed or your side of the bed. The fabric strikes a good balance between that classic cotton feel and the velvet blankets with a premium micro-plush cover which feels very comfortable even if it is synthetic. The cover for the blanket feels of lower quality than other examples, more like a particularly soft fleece than the velvety feel of the Mela or the more traditional cotton sheet cover of the Orbit. It’s certainly soft and comforting but I do wonder how it would fare in a wash. It also, to my mind anyway, looks a bit more premium in a dark grey rather than the lighter silver which seems to be the industry standard. Lastly, cost will inevitably come into your decision making process. Some weighted blankets have very high RRPs but we regularly see them discounted, so if there’s a pricey one that takes your fancy, it’s always worth a look to see if it’s on sale. How we tested the best weighted blankets

Made from natural eucalyptus fibers, TENCEL™ Lyocell is silky soft, with a lustrous sheen and smooth, cool-to-the-touch feel. It’s generally safe for adults to sleep with a weighted blanket every night – in fact, our tester now sleeps under their Simba blanket at all times. Starting slow can be a good idea, though. You should choose a weighted blanket based in part on your desired feel or texture. Some of these blankets have covers made of cotton or microfiber material that deliver a smooth feel, while others are made with fleece for a plusher and cozier texture. A few weighted blankets have reversible designs with a distinct feel on each side. Note: your Napper may take more than one cycle to be fully dried. Avoid hanging your Napper to dry – it'll stretch out its lovely loops. Avoid top-loading washing and drying machines. The cotton is super-soft next to the skin and breathable for ultimate comfort, which our tester found helped them sleep much better than without the blanket. And we particularly like that this weighted blanket works just as well draped over the bed as it does in the living room on a chair or sofa. The design is gorgeous and comes in a range of colours, including a berry red, green, grey and blue. We were also impressed by the ethical production process that ensures every worker at each stage is paid a fair wage.

A weighted blanket can help you to feel safe and reduce restlessness, but it really does depend on the individual. We delve a bit further into the topic and talk to some experts in this article. Considering we slept next to what we can only assume was the world's lightest sleeper, we were particularly excited to test the Simba Orbit blanket. Due to the hand-knit construction, the blanket should only be spot-cleaned as needed and never machine washed. Regardless of which weight you select, the blanket is designed for a throw size of 50 inches wide and 60 inches long. These dimensions make it best suited to single sleepers. Science shows that sleeping under weight improves sleep quality, lowers stress, and eases anxiety – and when those things are better, everything’s better!

Many people will understand the frustration of nights spent tossing and turning, when counting sheep does little to take you into the land of Nod. Treatments are available for insomnia, but those looking for a non-medicated route to better sleep would do well to give weighted blankets a go.The most common recommendation is that a weighted blanket should be around 10% of your body weight. However, this varies from person to person and you must feel comfortable under the blanket. It’s important that you feel relaxed but not too constricted. You should be able to move around easily if you need to. When starting to use a weighted blanket, start with approximately 10 minutes and observe the change in your body and mind before and after use,” suggests Henderson. “Make sure it feels comfortable, secure, and you can move it easily as needed. If it feels good after that time, then you can increase the time to 20-25 minutes and again just observe how you feel after that time. What I didn't expect is that the removable cotton cover makes this blanket feel the most like a duvet. It just felt a bit more familiar having this on the bed at night than a fleecy blanket or one of the ones without a cover on. They help provide happy hormones and allow the user to feel comfortable and safe. How much are weighted blankets?

The other disappointment with Snuzi’s product is the distribution of the glass balls which give it weight. Unlike some of the pricier examples, these seem to be partially free to move around inside the blanket, which means that if you elect to dispense with the cover, it can feel like you’re covered in grains of sand. Not exactly relaxing for a comfortable night’s sleep. The best weight for your blanket depends entirely on your body. As we’ve discussed, most people tend to prefer blankets that equate to roughly 10 percent of their body weight. That said, there is some wiggle room with this estimate. The yarns are composed of polyester in a soft jersey knit, so the blanket glides gently over the skin and shouldn’t cause any irritation. Polyester fibers also make up the fill. You can choose between two weights. Using the “10% rule,” we recommend the 10-pound blanket if you weigh 80 to 120 pounds, and the 15-pound blanket if you weigh 130 to 180 pounds. The blanket is also available in two colors, cream and gray. The blanket is designed with high-quality glass bead fill encased in a cotton shell. Grid stitching keeps the glass beads in place, resulting in even distribution across the blanket and preventing the fill from bunching up. Some blankets also promote more airflow than others due to how they are constructed. Knitted blankets have an openwork design that allows air to pass through freely, and this can help you keep cool – even if the blanket is exceptionally heavy. Quilted blankets cannot circulate air as well and often sleep hot as a result.Depending on availability, we test up to three weights for each blanket. This allows us to gauge how comfortable the blanket is for different weight groups. Most weighted blanket covers are removable and can be washed and dried in a household machine. In some cases, the entire blanket can be laundered at home. Alternatively, you may need to spot clean or dry clean your blanket to prevent early wear and tear. So that it’s weighted where it matters, the glass beads are focused in the centre of the blanket rather than on the edges. Our tester wasn’t sure if this would mean that the weight would cover not all of their body, but the area is generously large enough to do the job.
