About this deal

One by one, they are possessed, starting with Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) in the famous vine scene that caused quite the controversy and made 'The Evil Dead' one of the first films to be included in the infamous video nasty list of the UK. Whatever the case may be, this is a must-own for any enthusiast of horror cinema, and it is highly recommended for neophytes spending the weekend alone in the woods. It's been a while since I've heard a TrueHD track (everything seems to be DTS these days), and I was immediately reminded of the wide and spacious sound TrueHD is capable of delivering.

The grain structure is understandably thick, but it never takes away from any of the visible detail and gives the image a wonderfully gritty, cinematic appearance. I kind of wish the original stereo track was also included for a retro experience, but it's a forgivable sin of omission. Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy is one of the most seminal horror (or horror/comedy depending on how you look at them) sets of all times. The film opens up with what seems like a weird throwback to the original films, with a couple of young adults having a blast at a cabin in the woods, only for one of the girls (played by Anna-Maree Thomas) to turn into a deadite and attack her friends. The only lapses are witnessed when the original photography has encountered problems, or produced some of its own - that shot of Scotty stepping up to the cabin when they first arrive, for example, and the long shot of Ash and Linda on the couch during the necklace scene.Starz has released a brand new featurette that introduces the main characters in its original series Ash Vs Evil Dead, which reunites Bruce Campbell with director Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert. Yeah, I’m going to spoil it right now by saying it once again surprised me, much like the 2013 film. But, barring Spiegel (who would end as one of the infamous “Fake Shemps” on the production), the ensemble are merely filmmakers who just followed the bloody flag of Raimi and strove forth to create their own micro-budgeted horrors. Outside of the absolutely savage kills, the film simply works by taking the core elements of the deadites and running with them.

Now, hang on a moment, isn't that the naughty tree branch violating Ellen Sandweiss on-location - the very thing she says happened in post-production and she wasn't even aware of until she saw the premier . Whatever amateur mistake or approach can be pointed out in the movie — of which there are plenty — is easily overlooked for the sheer enthusiasm and exuberance put on display. It is easy to sit here and say that seeing the film in hi-def and with lossless sound is like experiencing it for the first time - and, of course, it isn't as devastating as that - but, man, it comes close! Take for example the priest on the record describing how there were 3 copies of the Necromicon made (1 that Ash has in the series, the 2nd found in the cabin in the 2013, and the 3rd is what we run across here in L. The Evil Dead' is Sam Raimi's feature film debut about a small group of college friends wanting to spend a quiet weekend in an isolated cabin.Fade to the opening credits, the film switches gears in a complete 180, introducing us to Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and her young children Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), Danny (Morgan Davies) and Kassie (Nell Fisher) trying to cope with Ellie’s husband leaving them. And by also putting forth respectable restoration efforts, like digitally removing Robert Tapert at the beginning of the movie. This goes all in with sonic atmosphere, just smothering the listening in an omni-directional assault that never once lets go.
