Frankly there are less complaints about this issue with the HD5000 than we’ve seen with many other sewing machines. The HD3000 is another popular Janome machine and it is very similar to the HD5000, but there are a few differences. It can handle more layers with some hand wheel assistance and I've gone through 10 layers but it absolutely needs some hand assist on that many layers. Turning off the personalized advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. Overall it is an outstanding machine for someone who needs a machine that can do really heavy duty work but also a machine that can do other work as well as regular hobby or home use.

I've been using this for a year now on costume construction and it is fabulous for everything from ballgowns to superhero costumes. One thing is you have to be very careful when sewing multiple thick layers that the presser foot doesn't overcome the load spring holding it down.
