About this deal

The writing in the beginning of the book isn’t too bad- not ‘good’ but better than the latter end of the book. Some of it was okay. I went on a reading spree with this author over the weekend after reading The Cabin Below and batted about 50% in the like/don't like categories across the 4 I've read so far. I'm currently reading the 5th book. There was nothing established to say why suddenly someone started stalking her for that reason almost 10 years later - and why only her and not her friends? Once it was revealed her husband is the stalker, I guess that makes sense, but the story didn't establish that. It went from "Ooh, I did something awful 10 years ago ... nothing has happened since...suddenly I'm being stalked...it must be someone knowsThen, a big reveal later when random stalking doesn't add up. But this immediate leap to paranoia is weird. I loved how in this book Carly planted her flagged and decided she wasn't going to run and hide anymore. She has found her place and she stopped living in fear. She made the decision to meet head-on with her problems and I can't wait to see how this will play out over the next few books. Overall, I would describe this a too “showy” for a story with not enough thrills and suspense. There are some areas that didn’t read too smoothly either, which frustrated me. I appreciate that this is the writer’s debut novel so I think there is much more to come from Skeet-Yaffe. However, this time, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

I was completely drawn into this fantastic tale of two women. You will indeed find yourself questioning what part is real and what part is fiction! Oh so deviously twisty! I love how descriptive the author is with everything. Everything was so clearly painted in my mind, I felt like I was in the room with the characters at points. LIES SHE TOLD receives a 5 star rating on the old Twister Richter Scale. A book within a book that is completely believable, twisty and mind-bending. It was a hard read, and I'm normally good at keeping story lines separated. A few things that could have worked differently, which would have helped readers retain which characters belong in which section, as well as distinct from one another. Character names were too similar: Beth and Liza. I know this is supposed to help with the parallels, but it left you a tad confused at times. Jake and David. Sound a bit similar. Go with two very different options to help us keep it straighter. Something long, something short. I had to stop and start a lot. I don't like to re-read the same thing over and over again. But I was OK here as it was a complex story, plotted out in a good way. As Beth has grown up in this village, she knows the victim, as well as most other residents, quite well. Talking to her family, friends, neighbors, Harper and Miller learn nothing about any kind of a motive. Any suspect was immediately looked at, but all their alibis seem to be aboveboard.Hilary has a secret from her past that still haunts her. She thinks she is being stalked by someone who knows about it and suspects everyone as incidents happen more and more.

Carly Moore is a amazing main female character who is phenomenal at sleuthing. The mystery and storyline had me hooked from the beginning and it kept me intrigued throughout the book. It was so intense for me. I was on the edge of my seat while reading this book. The characters were perfectly written, each one believable and provoked the right emotions for this type of book. The pair though are a good team and are damn good at their jobs. Beth wears her heart on her sleeve and does get emotionally involved in the case but then she did know the victim. She also isn’t afraid to say what she thinks and add reason to her thoughts when she is convinced someone is charged for a crime they didn’t commit. Beth finds herself clashing with Tom and worrying that a recent tragedy will affect his judgement as a police officer. But there may be an even bigger question: Is it a burglary gone wrong that’s turned the village upside down—or could the violence be connected to something far more deadly?

Lots of strong characters which I loved and I love how the author painted such a great picture of the characters in your mind, I could imagine exactly what they looked like. This was more of a psychological one and I kept trying to figure out what was what constantly and I love that in a book. I love a good twist and this had so many. So many in fact, I think my mouth was agape for most of the second half of the book.
