About this deal

It's a heck of a lot darker than anything Penelope Douglas has written and surely a leap away from anything she's written in the past. None of us know the full measure of our power until we start pushing our boundaries and pressing our luck, and the more we do, the less we care what others think. So overall, there were parts I enjoyed that had me reading on the edge of my seat, and many moments where I found myself huffing and puffing and eye-rolling with annoyance, which had me putting it down often.

And then I straightened, reaching up, grabbing a handful of hair, and bringing it over my shoulder to cover the left side of my neck. The characters face numerous obstacles and must come to terms with the powerful themes of love, sacrifice, revenge, redemption, identity, family, grief, loss, and isolation.

Okay so no matter what I think, I want to point out that MOST EVERYONE in my book crew loved this book like crazy, and IF you go with it, you’ll likely find it exciting, terrifying, and delightfully confusing. She legit had 0 surface-level flaws (and don't tell me a 2 inch scar counts), she was 'chill', 'one of the guys', a rich innocent good girl who was secretly bad *dun dun dun*, could dance, fence, apparently a knife expert?

My first night at Delcour, she was in a dress, you were in a suit, and you both had just gotten back here from wherever you were at.

And, okay, they did a couple of other small things, but they were minor annoyances, not even slightly mentally damaging. Jaxon’s brother, Chase, is a dangerous and manipulative character, and his father, William, seeks to control Jaxon and Saddie’s relationship.

More alike than either of them is willing to admit, they push each other’s buttons by understanding and preying on one another’s innermost weaknesses, and because Ms Douglas always knows just how to truly make the most of that fine line between love and hate, she also manages to turn every single act of wickedness between these characters into their ultimate aphrodisiac. And let’s not forget the time when the Four Horsemen tell Rika about the girl who was drugged and raped in an old church basement where everyone hangs out at to party. They all built me in a way, but Michael began the foundation when I was thirteen, laying brick after brick after brick and then tearing it all down to start over again. But I'll take it any day over the whole "'present'prologue followed by the whole 'five years earlier' and now spend the rest of the book working your way back here" bullshit, fuck you very much.Their books have been translated into nineteen languages and include The Fall Away Series, The Devil’s Night Series, and the stand-alones, Misconduct, Punk 57, Birthday Girl, Credence, and Tryst Six Venom. He captivated her with his brooding intensity, drew her in with his aloofness, and completely disregarded her. I hated his beautiful face with his hazel eyes—the color of cider with flecks of spice—and his hands…I hated his hands. She faces betrayals and twists which force her to question everything she thought she knew about the Horsemen and their motivations. Anyway, I was excited because I’d get to hate on Rika (one of my favorite pastimes because I’m pathetic okay) but am now deeply offended because my hate for her grew with the series.
