About this deal

So one major consequence of the WOTC debacle has been the shift from many in the D&D community to explore the plethora of other gaming delights – and boy have the likes of Free League Publishing, Chaosium and Paizo benefitted – both in terms of online interest but also in oodles of hard cash been spent on these other gaming systems. In fact some companies have found it something of a challenge in keeping up with the incredible demand – especially regarding a certain Pathfinder 2e TTRPG!

The books are beautifully designed – the covers are stunning and the artwork throughout is gorgeously powerful and downright gorgeous. Throughout the book, the artwork not only supports and exemplifies the basics of Pathfinder, but also looks beautiful as a separate entity on its own with an impressive attention to lore and narrative detail that clearly shows as a labour of love from the game’s writers. The feel for the authentic nature of the mythos is rarely seen to this level of qualityIf any of the players ask how their characters know each other, either let the players come up with something or suggest that they play cards together at the Crow’s Casks (one of Ontari’s taverns detailed in the adventure). They don’t need a detailed history together, but generally you don’t wander into a dungeon full of monsters with complete strangers at your side. Expect running the Beginner Box to tak 8 to 12 hours. The duration will vary between groups because no two groups are going to play the same way and sometime poor dice rolls can make things go faster or slower, especially in combat. This article covers the Pathfinder Second Edition Beginner Box. For the Pathfinder First Edition equivalent, see Beginner Box (First Edition).

You can see more of Paizo’s incredible content here at DriveThruRPG and here at Pathfinder Infinite These characters are official characters in the Pathfinder setting of Golarion, and feature prominently in both Pathfinder fiction and in Paizo’s published works. If you’re curious, you can learn more about the iconic characters in the Meet the Iconics article series. These characters have over a decade of published lore (for example: the cleric and the rogue are married), but don’t feel like you need to know any of it. If you want to scratch out their names and play as your own character with the same stats, that’s fine. These are your version of the characters, and you and your group should tell your own stories. You can also make your own characters, which we’ll discuss later. The Beginner Box is a "Pathfinder Adventure" run in "Adventure Mode" (what us grognards continue to refer to as "Campaign Mode"), which "allows the GM more freedom to adapt those adventures, including running the adventure in Pathfinder using GM house rules, and the ability to alter encounters and statistics found in the adventure." Just as in the introductory adventure, information is delivered on a need-to-know basis. The copy itself is both uplifting for players and encouraging for new GMs, with a focus on faking it until you make it through your first few sessions. Once everyone has characters and has read the rules a bit and selected or created characters, it’s time to play. That's the power of a mass producer like Hasbro rather than any inherit virtue of the box or its contents.

As you run the adventure, I encourage you to read the full text of each area, as there are some fun hidden bits like traps and hidden treasure. I’ll also provide some specific suggestions for some of the adventure’s areas based on my own experience running the Beginner Box: One of the strengths of the Beginner Box is that it includes a simplified version of the full Pathfinder ruleset. This allows new players to learn the basics of the game without feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the full rules. However, the simplified rules still provide plenty of depth and complexity, allowing players to experience the full range of Pathfinder gameplay. Also it was released before the 5e core books, allowing groups to test out the system before potentially spending hundreds of dollars on a new game (especially after 4e lost many fans). The line is somewhere in there, and it is up to each GM, acting on good faith, to decide where that line stops for them. The Pathfinder Beginner Box is Paizo’s newest starter set, released late last year. As such, it’s fully upgraded and compatible with the game’s second edition ruleset. You’ll find a nearly identical treatment in the Starfinder Beginner Box, but with a ruleset tailored to Paizo’s science fiction setting.Forum list *Dungeons & Dragons One D&D (5.5E) Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition D&D Older Editions *TTRPGs General *Pathfinder & Starfinder EN Publishing *Geek Talk & Media

When the product code has been activated on your Foundry VTT account, you will be able to install the Pathfinder Beginner Box module from the Foundry Virtual Tabletop setup screen. The pre-generated characters come complete with filled out character sheet at level 1, including a detailed description of each of their initial abilities and actions, and enough information to start ‘getting into their headspace’. Many starter sets have included similarly helpful and attractive pre-generated character information, but what sets this product apart is the fact that they also include here blank character sheets for the bolder ones among us who also want to create our own personal characters. This omission form other starter sets is something that I’ve always found strange so I’m delighted to see the inclusion here. My last post was a *specific * response to the beginners box, which has specific language requiring all characters to be built using the beginners box rules. Double-Sided Flip Map. This is a map of the dungeon which the players will explore as part of the adventure. Each side is one level of the dungeon. Don’t reveal this to the players yet. If you have dry-erase markers, you can write on the map with them. This is great for taking notes, marking where players have found things or left things in the dungeon, or even petty vandalism.A Getting Started Document. A one-sheet document which explains how to get started with the Beginner Box. High-resolution character artwork and unique monster tokens for 56 Pathfinder bestiary creatures, 36 heroic characters, and 13 non-player characters.
