When it comes to included software and services, there isn’t a massive amount to talk about with the Xperia 10 V. It’s even lighter than the Xperia 10 IV, despite having the same large 5,000mAh battery, while its 6.1in FHD+ 60Hz OLED display is now fractionally bigger and significantly brighter. Also new to this model is a set of front-firing stereo speakers. Everything’s simplified in a more intuitive way, which should go a long way in encouraging experimentation.

The Xperia 5 V takes the lead with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 4nm chipset, offering smooth multitasking and gaming performance. We’ve yet to come across an Xperia phone that doesn’t impress in the picture department, and the Xperia 10 V is no exception. Much like its predecessor, the Sony offers ludicrous picture performance for the price, making it the most cinematic phone we’ve seen for the money.

Benchmark results bear this out, with the unsurprising news that the Xperia 10 V is just as slow as its predecessor. This means that it’s fallen even further behind the mid-range competition, which have all got faster. The main camera has received an upgrade, with Sony swapping out the 1/2.8in 12MP sensor of the Xperia 10 IV for a larger, more pixel-dense 1/2in 48MP sensor. You get the same pair of 8MP sensors for ultrawide and 2x telephoto shots as last year, however. Let's start with some positives first. The Xperia 10 V finally has a stereo speaker setup and a pretty good one at that - front-facing, well-balanced and decently loud, with a clean output. Making a return - the great ingress protection rating is hard to come by in the midranger space. The same is true for a telephoto camera, let alone one that does a decently good job quality-wise, like we are seeing on the Xperia 10 V. We can't fail to mention the excellent battery life the Xperia 10 V manages from its 5,000 mAh battery and now with notably faster charging, even if still rather slow in the grand scheme of things. The brightness boost on the signature 21:9 HDR display is also great to see this year.
Listen, watch, shoot, play, enjoy. With a best-in-class 5000mAh large capacity battery, front stereo speakers, a bright OLED display, and a triple lens camera, the Xperia 10 V can easily handle all your everyday activities, from music and movies to gaming and photography. Yet it's compact and lightweight enough to comfortably carry anywhere and everywhere. That means your standard adaptor lying around won’t really need upgrading, giving a point to the “green” practice of simply using what you already have, but it’s another case of Sony’s handset struggling to keep up with the truly convenient features of the phones it’s trying to compete with for the same money. It’s not hard to find other mid-rangers with glass front and rear, but the Xperia 10 V avoids feeling cheap. A matte finish also helps keep fingerprint smudges under control, and the slightly rounded frame sits nicely in your hands. As ever with Sony phones, though, the 21:9 aspect ratio screen still demands dextrous thumbs (or software assistance) to comfortably reach its upper regions.

While we’ve not benchmarked the Xperia 1 V just yet, we have used plenty of 2023 flagships with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 so we have a good idea of just how well the phone will perform.
Starting with design, both the Sony Xperia 5 V and Xperia 10 V bear the unmistakable Sony DNA – sleek, elegant, and exuding a premium feel. The Xperia 5 V, however, stands out with its compact flat form spin and slightly edgier design. It sports a 6.1-inch bright OLED display with Full HD+ resolution, resulting in sharp and vibrant visuals. Starting with the flagship Xperia 1 V, most of the upgrades are centred around the camera this year, which shouldn't come as a surprise as that was the case last year. It's using a new sensor called the Exmor T for mobile, which Sony claims is 1.7 times bigger than the sensor found in the 1 IV. This new camera module means that the Xperia 1 V can produce images with better dynamic range, as well as clearer and brighter low-light shots.

Another Xiaomi phone definitely worth considering is the Poco X5 Pro. In many aspects, it is not too dissimilar to the Redmi Note 12 Pro, like the 6.67-inch, 10-bit Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 120Hz display, the IP53 ingress protection rating and the stereo speakers. There is also the identical 5,000 mAh battery with the same 67W fast charging. Once again, you will be missing out on a telephoto camera, though. At 6.1in, the Xperia 10 V has grown a teensy bit compared to last year, but keeps the same better-than-Full HD 2520×1080 resolution. The cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio is taller and slimmer than most rivals, and while the bezels aren’t overly slim, they leave enough space at the top of the phone for the front-facing camera. We’re used to punch-holes and notches now, but it’s still refreshing when a phone lands with an uninterrupted view. Sony has delivered yet another compelling budget Android phone with the Xperia 10 V. Its picture and sound performance are hard to believe when we take into account how little it costs and, while it may not offer cutting-edge internal specs and the camera is hardly class-leading, it's comfortably the best budget phone on the market for movies and music. You can still get its top-tier devices like the Xperia 1 V. That hasn’t changed. But they’re a growing niche these days, typically being announced long before their street date and only taken on by its most adoring fans.Endurance is one of the biggest reasons to consider snapping up an Xperia 10 V. Sony has squeezed a 5000mAh battery inside its skinny chassis, which instantly gives it a leg up over many mid-rangers. The modest hardware helps, of course, but it’s the software tweaks that mean this phone merely sips power, others are gulping it down.
