About this deal

As the average age of retirement for salaried judicial office holders is 66, assuming that that trend will continue, opportunities for new candidates to apply would continue. The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Nicholas Anthony Joseph Ghislain Mostyn, Esq. Tribunals figures include all tribunals administered by HMCTS and Welsh Tribunals not administered by HMCTS.

Following his retirement in January 2022, having reached the then mandatory retirement age of 70 shortly before it was increased by Parliament to 75, he has continued to hear cases as a member of the Court’s Supplementary Panel. No retirement age; however, judges lose their earned retirement benefits if they do not apply for retirement before turning 73. A MRA of 70 was set in 2003 for magistrates and in 2013 for coroners in England and Wales, which has aligned their MRA with that of the wider judiciary. She served as a Deputy District Attorney at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office from 2017 to 2021 and as a Deputy Public Defender at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office from 2006 to 2017. That appointment can then be extended each year by virtue of section 26(6), for a further one-year period up to the point at which the judge turns 75, subject to the same requirement. In 2012 he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and from 2012 to 2015 he was Chairman of the Law Commission. For exercises that launched prior to January 2020 and concluded in 2020-21, data is taken from JARS. The Judicial Career Progression chart provides an overview of progression through the judiciary in England and Wales : www.

However, this may be offset by the fact that increased MRA would provide increased opportunities for individuals who may take a longer career path to the judiciary due to facing barriers to career progression. The Louisiana Mandatory Judicial Retirement Age Amendment sought to do away with that constitutional requirement. The Pennsylvania Judicial Retirement Age Amendment (2016) raised the mandatory retirement age for justices and judges from 70 to 75. The Hawaii Mandatory Retirement Age for Justices and Judges, SB 886 (2014) received almost unanimous support in the Hawaii House of Representatives and Hawaii Senate, and had the support of Governor Neil Abercrombie. Figures are published on an annual basis, taking a snapshot of the staffing position as at 1 April of each year.
